I grew up on the Mediterranean and have been a beachgoer all of my life. I have also been on countless beaches around the world. We were on family holiday to Walt Disney World and decided to bring our two kids to Cocoa Beach, since neither of them has been in the ocean before.
I can only speak to the part of the beach where we were, and we did not walk far in either direction, but the amount of cigarette butts, metal bottle caps and plastic bottles all littered and buried in the sand was atrocious. It was rather disgusting to dig your toes into the warm sand and turn up a clump of used cigarette butts.
I am also surprised that there were no rinsing stations in a place like this. I can only recall, maybe less than a handful of ocean beaches that I have been to that did not have rinsing stations at various locations. Maybe Cocoa Beach does have one somewhere, so I could be wrong, but there were none in the area where we were. We drove the rental car all the way back to Orlando covered in salt.
Just for reference we have no idea which street we came in from, but the pay parking we used was right on the sidewalk area for a condo building. The parking area was badly littered with broken glass and shards of metal, so be sure you wear shoes to and...
Read moreCocoa Beach in Cocoa Beach, Florida, was a pleasure to visit. There were very big waves due to a tropical depression at the time but I do enjoy big waves very much. The sand was soft (and hot). I do indeed have two complaints. My grandparents, cousin and I, could NOT find parking. It is a beach so we would assume that there would be some bathrooms, a boardwalk, gift shops, etc. But we could not find one!! We looked for twenty minutes plus walked up and down the beach. We ended up parking in a random lot near the beach. Parking was not too expensive. My other complaint was how much sea weed there was. No one can really do anything about this as it is the ocean and it’s also the Atlantic Ocean, except this seaweed was a disgusting yellow and I was quite concerned about something else. I went tot his beach on July 23, 2019. Around 2 pm, groups of people starting pointing to the ocean saying “sharks!”. I personally did not see a shark but one day later a local news channel did confirm that there was a shark in the water. Overall, Cocoa Beach was a good experience but it could’ve...
Read moreCocoa Beach has been my top beach choice whenever I visit the central Florida area for the past 15 years. It is less than one and half hours of driving from Orlando where most of the tourists stay. Comparing with many Florida beaches, Cocoa Beach is relatively low profile and not too crowded, as I experienced during quite a few visits in different seasons. Water there is always clean and mostly warm in the extended “summer” time. You would enjoy the beach with family and friends in summer months. The nearby Kennedy Space Center is another great family tourist attraction. Nevertheless, my favorite time to visit Cocoa Beach actually is late fall or early winter, so I often can claim the whole beach to myself and feel...
