Hotel Terra Jackson Hole — Attraction in Jackson

Very Disappointed ||We rented the 1 bedroom king suite. It has 2 baths,  a kitchen,  a king bedroom,  a sitting area with a fireplace and a small balcony. ||Cons:||1.      The hotel is “pet friendly”. We found dog poo in the room at the last day of our stay.||2.      Activities booked:||a.      We booked a horse back riding trip through the concierge. Normally when booking activities through the hotel you assume that they are fairly close. Don’t assume is my lesson learned.  This particular excursion was an hour and a half away. Recommendation,  always check the distance before booking and even then, plan on leaving super early.  This is one of those things where they SHOULD have put a mention in the brochure or the concierge should have mentioned it and asked if we still wanted to book it.||b.      The spa: we booked a couples spa and when the appointment time came, the chill spa wasn’t open and we were told that it must be at the spa in the sister property.  We walked over to the Terra spa at the sister property and were told that there was no booking for us. We went to the concierge at hotel Terra and we told that spa is not managed by the concierge and it was basically a “not our problem “ attitude. We spoke to the manger at the desk and he confirmed that spa appointments are managed by someone else and did not offer anything to compensate for the inconvenience. My issue is that the concierge/ hotel reached out to me when I booked the room months earlier and this is what spurred us to book these activities in the first place. I shouldn’t have to know internal politics. I certainly wouldn’t have thought that I should recheck if activities are booked. Had we known that the appointment wasn’t actually booked,  we would have planned other activities and this little snafu that wasn’t their problem,  ruined our day.||3.      This hotel / Teton Village is a 30 or 40 min drive from Jackson Hole. If you plan to spend time in the summer and go to Yellowstone or Jackson, you need to plan for the extra drive. If coming here for skiing,  this hotel and the four seasons are perfectly located.||4.      I paid to have champagne in the room and we opted to not drink it on the first night, when we left the room,  there wasn’t a do not disturb sign, so we stopped at the desk and asked for them to put a sign in the room and “please do not clean the room”. They cleaned the room anyway and took the champagne glasses and ice bucket. ||5.      The sink in the room was clogged. ||6.      There is no air conditioning in our room.  The room was very hot and the heat was on. We couldn’t get the room cooled down the first night. Finally had to open up the windows and there were motorcycles and vehicles and people outside…kept us awake half the night. ||7.      There isn’t enough parking.  The parking lot was completely full and it was a royal pain finding a place to park.||8.      The restaurant: not impressed with their menu at all. I guess they have to cater to all kinds of people but many of their choices are just weird. Breakfast doesn’t open until 7am, which is late if you plan to eat and have to drive to any activities.  I recommend that you look at the menus in the other hotels in the area and plan your agenda based on your personal preference.  Note that I didn’t see any restaurants that weren’t located inside a hotel. ||9.      There was a coffee pot in the room but there were no coffee filters so we couldn’t use it the first morning.  If I wanted to get dressed and go downstairs and outside to the other building there’s free coffee in the lobby…but then, why am I paying for a suite?||10.  The elevator was out of service and there was a ladder blocking the stairs. When you’re on the 4th floor and have to carry your luggage, this is an inconvenience and a safety hazard. ||11.  Couldn’t find an onsite convenience store.  There might be one but we couldn’t find one. We finally saw a gas station within walking distance on our last night here.|| ||Pros||1.      The king size suite was spacious and nice, but not any more than many time shares that I have stayed in. The bed is firm. A bit too firm for my taste. I prefer the beds at Hyatt hotels. ||2.      Made for skiing and mountain biking.  We were within walking distance to the lifts. June 7th was the first day this year that the lifts were open for mountain bikes. There is a bike rental shop at the four seasons next door. We took the lift to the top to take pictures $65 per person for adults.||3.      About 40 minutes to Jackson Hole. Lots of shops and restaurants there to keep you busy for the day. Jackson has a parking garage that offers free parking.  Note that I don’t advise it for large trucks. It’s a tight fit inside.||4.      Like I said in the Cons, this place is pet friendly.  It just depends on your perspective.  I personally am not a fan of barking dogs when I’m paying for “luxury”.||5.      I  Guess that a pro could be that it’s cheaper than the four seasons next door.||All in all, if you’re looking for something nicer than an econo lodge, you probably have to choose between this place and the four seasons. My wife and I are currently in-house at this hotel, and boy do we have some words for the management team and any guests looking to come here. Some background, I am a high-end luxury hospitality professional of over 10 years.

TL;DR To guests considering staying here, if you want to be cared for and thought of and made to feel special, stay at the Hotel Terra. Yes, it might seem expensive but it is in Jackson Hole, right in the main village. All the reviews saying it is overpriced are from people who don’t understand simple supply and demand or seasonal resort pricing. All the reviews saying the rooms are not nice clearly wanted to book the Four Seasons but couldn’t afford it and are just sour. The Hotel Terra is a bright and special resort with a great location and even more special people working there.

To the management team at Hotel Terra, the four professionals mentioned below are top-tier hospitality workers and make your hotel shine in a much better way than your location or facilities. Give them a pat on the back, and consider them for a raise. They deserve it. I hope they make the morning lineup shout outs!

We came here for our honeymoon, and after a long drive from Denver, we arrived pretty exhausted and immediately ran into some issues in our room. They now seem like insignificant little annoyances and gripes after were swiftly and perfectly resolved by the team on site the next morning.

MJ at the front office is a true hospitality professional. He was the one who corrected our complaints and turned a rough start to our honeymoon into a very special experience that we are now thoroughly enjoying. He went above and beyond and it is obvious to me that he understands hospitality and its ultimate goal of a special guest experience.

Shady at the concierge is so sweet and helped me set up some surprise flowers in the room for my wife on arrival. She even threw in chocolate covered strawberries and champagne, which was a welcome surprise after our travels. Again, she understands what hospitality is all about and it is so refreshing.

Sean on the bell team helped us move our luggage between rooms after we had to move due to a noisy fridge. He was very pleasant and made the process of moving rooms way easier.

I only had a small interaction with Joaquin at the front desk, but he also deserves a shout out for just making our stay more special by being kind and welcoming.

My first time here. The hotel is in a quad like village of hotels, shops and restaurants. The center is very nice - cute with a terrace with tables and chairs, a little stream and grassy areas. There is also a gondola is there to take people up the mountain. The hotel itself was comfortable. We booked a 1 bedroom king which came with 2 bathrooms (rm450). It was spacious and comfortable for 2 people. The kitchen was adequately stocked with equipment but the cutlery could be replaced and cleaned better. There was a small balcony overlooking the quad with seating and a fireplace which turned on with a timer. I hated the lighting in the room. There were about 10 light switches and the overhead lighting was like a spotlight when you were sitting on the couch. The bathroom lighting was too dark and I think the tub light was out. I booked through AmEx plat and received $100 hotel credit and $60/day for breakfast. I would skip the on-site restaurant unless you have credit. Very slow service, expensive and the food is sub-par. They also kept forgetting items I ordered. Kept giving me sour dough toast even though I asked for wheat. The first day we ordered breakfast take-out with tip was $70 for Osteria breakfast and oatmeal. Checked the receipt and 20% service charge was already added. Second day Osteria breakfast and yogurt came to $47.73 and third Just Osteria breakfast was $29.67 (forgot bacon). The Osteria breakfast is listed as $19 on their menu but they charged differently every day. The check-in was easy and fast and the staff there were very nice. The assigned room was pretty clean. However my hubs complained that there was a lack of hot water in the shower in the morning. I take my showers at night so I did not have a problem. For 3 nights I paid $2430, prices probably higher...
