I've stayed at many hotels before, including La Quinta at other locations. This particular hotel was way below what I expected. I stayed there for over a week and here are a few things I noticed. The coffee is in the lobby, and it is available 24hrs or so they said. This was a hit and miss between having cold coffee to no coffee at all. If there was no coffee, no need to worry, the rooms had their own coffee but no coffee maker :( The front side of the hotel is somewhat well kept, behind the hotel was a different story. Considering that they allow dogs in the hotel, the premisses where full of feces, especially behind the hotel. The garden was also unkept in the back area with an abandoned semi trailer overgrowing with weeds. Trash in the premises is an understatement; it was everywhere. The trash pickup site had trash overflowing into the parking lot at one point. The trash cans were picked up by employees every once in a while and I'm pretty sure that the cigarette containers where packed stuffed instead of cleaned out. The back entrance had graffiti and someone had pucked during the weekend and remained there the whole time. Inside the rooms we had a plumbing issue in the tub where the water leaked throught the tub. We were placed in another room where there was clear indication of water damage in the ceiling from the room above. So water seems to be a problem here. When we went to the next room I put my food in the fridge but was not aware that it was disconnected as you could only have the microwave or the fridge connected at a given time because of the plug size, so my food went bad. I'm glad that my room wasn't next to one of the entrances as the door was inoperable and kept making a loud bang every time someone entered or exited; and this was the door that had a handle, so people would make use of it more frequently. The other door had no handle. Breakfast was one of the main reasons I picked this hotel. Yet the pictures you see in their site and the reality are two different things. From Monday-Friday they would have cold boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, milk and packaged juices. This was placed by the coffee area but the breakfast area was closed. On Saturdat and Sunday they opened the breakfast area where you had a bit more stuff (muffins, bananas, diy waffles, bread...) but nothing hot (eggs, sausage, gravy...), this remained inoperable. The window for breakfast (6:00-9:00) was a hit and miss as well. If you were there at 6:00 sometimes the stuff wasn't ready and if you went there closer to 9:00 you might be lucky to find something as they dont seem to keep it stocked. Needless to say, most of the time I had to buy my own breakfast. I brought my dog and I expected a degree of smells, which I think is understandable; what I wasn't expecting was human hair in the bathroom. So they have to do a better job at cleaning, I think. The lobby photo with full stocked items for purchase was also not as advertised. They had a few items, but not as in the picture. It was more like when you go to a grocery store before a hurricane hits, pretty sad. I was excited about the pool but on our first swim we found cloudy over-chlorinated water. But it was clean and they kept it clean. The staff was attentive to their guest and polite. Entances to the hotel are always open and I didn't saw any cameras, so if security is a concern then this might be an issue for some. Overall, I had a poor experience. And I'm giving it two stars because I've stayed in worse hotels too. Williamsburg is a quaint little pretty town with lots to offer and this hotel should do a better job at kepping up with the competition and caring for...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I am a reviewer of all things, hotels, food, etc. I actually referred my family to the Laquinta because of my stay at other locations in other states because I travel often. I blame myself for not checking the reviews prior which I generally due, but because of my past experiences with the hotel chain in other states across the county, this one time I didn’t. I had my sister book two rooms for our family birthday weekend at Busch Gardens/Water Country at this hotel. I am giving the room itself 2 stars because it was clean and the bed was made, however between the two rooms we booked, we had 4 bath towels total for our families with no other towels in the rooms. And the decor was very dated from other locations. Location I will give it 3 stars because the travel isn’t too far to get to both parks, food and shopping. Parking I give 2 stars also, the front parking lot has very minimal parking available and there were only maybe 4-5 handicap parking spaces near the front entrance. There is additional parking along the side which is not very well lit at night and around the back which also had minimal lighting and I didn’t see any security cameras in the back parking lot, and you would have to walk up a slight incline to get back to the front to get access to the hotel. Now staff I am giving 2-3 stars only because when I addressed the towel issue to the evening shift, the lady did bring some towels to the room for us to use. I was actually going to give the staff a better rating until I accidentally left my brand new blanket that was purchased the night before for my birthday in the room on accident, and came back a few hours later to retrieve it and staff stole it. (When I returned to retrieve it, the room was still being cleaned and the front desk lady went to an area where the cleaning crew store retrieved items and it wasn’t there. She tried to explain that sometimes they throw away item, but I wasn’t believing it or having it, because it was a brand new queen size fluffy blanket nicely folded sitting on the bed, so no, it wasn’t thrown away, whoever went in this room stole it period!) I asked for the Manager and she phoned the manager who did approve a refund for the cost of the blanket which was generous and I appreciated the gesture, but I can assure you I will not be a returning guest at this specific location in the future due to staff stealing I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving any of my belongings in the rooms here. First time visiting Williamsburg,VA from out of state and will be the last time visiting since having a bad experience at the hotel and the water park both issues being petty theft just made the experience an overall bad one for...
Read moreI was there for a family reunion, and we were very excited to be close to everything in Williamsburg! Upon arrival (August 1, around 6pm) I was greeted by a kind man who checked me in. The woman didn’t Acknowledge me, that’s fine. Signed in, talked to the family members that were there. Went to my room, realized there was absolutely no AC in the halls, it was so hot. The halls smelled moldy and like dogs. The carpet could have used some vacuuming. Our group asked to be together, but we were told we couldn’t, we were all spread out. My dad asked if my kids, dog and I could at least be next to them (the lady said no bc I had a dog). Not really sure why they couldn’t have a room on floor one with us then. My cousin was on floor two with a dog, but we didn’t argue. My TV was broken, the man at the desk was nice enough to get a maintenance guy to look at it and then I got a new one. He was the only one that helped us and talked to us. He made coffee for us when my dad asked. The woman on night shift couldn’t be bothered to talk to me or my extended family members. None of us had wash cloths, I actually never got the 4 I asked for, some of us didn’t have toilet paper upon arrival, our bathroom was filthy, everyone had to ask for towels, the sheets were dirty and my dad got me new sheets for the bed. The bathroom had mold in the vents. The breakfast wasn’t kept stocked in the mornings. I understand if they were short staffed, but any time someone asked for something the woman was short with us (not just my family - other people staying as well). It felt like we were all an inconvenience for the employees. For a place that allows pets, there wasn’t really much of a grassy area for them. Again, didn’t complain, just dealt with it. My cousin’s daughter had a brick from the entrance fall on her back and scrap her up, instead of concern she was met with “do you want some wipes?” And later the brick was put back up with caution tape. All in all, floors were gross, bathrooms were gross, hallways hot and smelled, most of the employees weren’t friendly, on the last day there were roaches. And upon check out, on Aug 4, around 10am my extended family all checked out slowly. As one of my cousin’s checked out, he went to hand the lady the room keys and she said “I said put them in the basket.” So he did…then after they completed the checkout process, he said “have a nice day.” Even though she had been nasty to him, he was still nice. As he was was leaving she said F*CK YOU. So, no, I absolutely won’t be recommending this hotel to anyone. Save your money and stay somewhere else. There are def more hotels...
