Please beware if you visit this Cracker Barrel. On a vacation with family and went for dinner and the tables were so close together it was like you were sitting with other customers. While we were dining, we started getting alerts on our phone about activity on our credit cards. Well, needless to say the person behind us stole my daughter's wallet and proceeded to the Walmart, Publix, and Dollar Tree down the road racking up hundreds of dollars in charges. The management was told of the situation and all they did was give us the police non-emergency number on a post-it note and said we had to call the police ourselves. He said that they did not have cameras in the dining room, only in the gift shop. My daughter immediately called 911 as I stood inside to pay the bill with my grandson who was very upset. There was only 1 cashier working on this Saturday night and it seemed like hours before we got to her. While in line the other customers could see how upset we were, and I told them about what happened. They all showed concern about our situation, even the 2 very nice women sitting beside us in the restaurant. Once I paid the bill we went outside and still no police. So, I called 911 myself and talked to a very nice dispatcher. The person that stole the wallet was making charges as I was talking to her, and she was informed of the information. We also had the banks on the phone, and they were giving us the information.
Finally, a York County policeman showed up and we gave him the information, he went inside and asked to see the cameras and they told him the same that they told us, no cameras in dining area. The York County police said we would need to wait for the James City County police to come as that is where they were making the charges on the stolen bank cards. Well after waiting over an hour in front of the Cracker Barrel for James City police said they were not going to do anything about this.
This did not sit well with me, so I called the VA state police. They said they would look into it and call back. Well, they called back and said they would not do anything because they would not go over what James City said.
To end this long story and nightmare of our visit to this Cracker Barrel, I feel very upset about the fact that Cracker Barrel had no concern that this had happened in their crammed dining room and only gave us the non-emergency police number that he said we had to call ourselves. With going back inside the store to get warm and use the restroom, after over an hour of still waiting for the police, only the cashier showed any emotion of what had happened, we never saw the manager again after he gave us the post-it. Also, that the James City Police or the VA State police did absolutely nothing but helped the...
Read moreNever been to a Cracker Barrel before. It was close to our hotel so we decided to give it a try on a Tuesday night between Christmas and New Years. Placed a dinner order for family of 5. App said food would be ready at 8:30PM. Showed up 8:35. Food wasn't ready until 9PM. It didn't look particularly busy. There was no one in line half the time we were there waiting for our order. Hostest was nice and gave us free piece of cake to make up for it. Got into parking lot to check food order and noticed not 1 but 2 of our entrees were missing. The other hostess saw us walking back towards the restaurant and met us at the door to see what was wrong. We showed her the bags and explained the missing items. They got us the missing entrees ASAP but it was still another 10 mins of waiting. They gave us a extra large serving of our chicken and dumplings on order to make up for it. I took pictures of everything we ordered for this review.
Sampler platter was fun to try everything. Meat loaf was good. Wish there was extra ketchup or sauce as it was a little dry. The ham was very good. The chicken dumplings was also good. Not really my thing but my wife loved it. Steak fries were cold by the time we got back to hotel to eat it. Okra was fine. Mac and cheese my 7 year old ate. The corn muffins were a little bland. No sugar added.
Roast beef was good. Got it with house salad and fried apples and corn muffins. This was probably our favorite dish over all.
Country fried chicken was soo dry, no one wanted to eat it. In the take out condiments they didn't have half the stuff we were asking for, like the jams for the corn muffins or biscuits or the dill ranch sauce. They gave us 1 packet of mayo and 2 packets of ketchup for everything we ordered. We also got loaded hash browns and loaded mashed potatoes with this and the sides were far superior to the chicken.
We got extra side of fried pickles and cheese bites. Other than being cold by the time we made it back to the hotel because of how long we had to wait for everything, they were fine.
Lastly we got order of biscuit beignets. This was probably the best item next to the pot roast. We only got 5 in one order which meant everyone got 1 piece. They reminded us of the taco bell cinnamon bun donut holes which we love. But they are so much cheaper at taco bell, it probably wasn't worth it to order it here.
It was worth trying Cracker Barrel at least once. Not sure if i will ever feel the need to go back based on the food quality for the price. Value was just not there and the poor organization getting our order ready and put together didn't...
Read moreCracker Barrel Old Country Store is an iconic American restaurant chain whose menu is based on traditional southern cuisine. Each location cleverly resembles an old-fashioned store, with a porch and rocking chairs, while the inside is adorned with vintage decorations and knick-knacks.
This was our first visit to Cracker Barrel (Mon May 26, 2025) and it was only a short Uber ride away from our hotel in Williamsburg, Virginia.
We initially didn’t know what to make of Cracker Barrel - it was strange to enter the gift store when we’d come for food - but having seen a few adverts on TV we had an idea of what we wanted to sample. We tried our best not to get our hopes up just in case the food wasn’t as good as it looked.
We ordered: 🥩🥕 Campfire Beef = $16.99 🥘🥔 Meatloaf plus Three Country Sides = $14.99 🥤 Diet Coke (refillable) = $3.49 🍺 Blue Moon (12oz can) = $4.79 😢 State & Local Tax = $5.36 💰 Total = $54.11
The theatrical Campfire Beef, cooked and served in thick foil to lock in the flavor, consisted of tender slow-braised beef with campfire seasoning, sweet corn on the cob, red skin potatoes, carrots, grape tomatoes and onions, was served with buttermilk biscuits. The portion size was generous and filling.
The meatloaf, made with a blend of beef, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes, came with three sides and we chose: mashed potatoes with white gravy, steamed broccoli and mac and cheese.
We were served hot biscuits with butter ahead of the food arriving. They smelled incredible and took us back to our childhood. The biscuits were ideal for mopping up the juices of the campfire beef dish.
We enjoyed our meals and didn’t want them to end….but we (unusually) had ordered a dessert! We sensibly shared the S’mores Brownie Skillet, another theatrical dish, and it is safe to say it was one of the best sweets we’ve ever had. It also doesn’t get any more American than s’mores!
Our server, Kiszanny, was polite and efficient and she told us she was new at Cracker Barrel having come from Jamaica on a youth scheme.
After our meals, we mooched around the Country Store section and were pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced the merchandise and goodies were. We settled on buying a wooden magnet for our collection ($7.99 + $.56 tax).
Cracker Barrel was founded in Tennessee in 1969 and is now an American institution with over 650 restaurants across the U.S. We are glad we got to enjoy their wares, and while we were greatly tempted to return the next night, decided not to, as we wanted to keep the memory out our...
