Let me start by saying I normally do not leave negative reviews. I have waited patiently for the survey that I was told I would receive so that I could share my thoughts and these photos with management. We left 4 days ago and I still have not received that email. I would highly suggest staying somewhere other than this Wyndham Resort while visiting Williamsburg. When we arrived I waited awkwardly in the middle of the room for 5 minutes before I was ever acknowledged by any of the 8 staff members working. Once someone became available I approached their counter and was asked what I needed. When I told them I was checking in I was rudely told to go stand back in line that the 2 people working at another counter would check me in and then they would give me my room keys aka try to talk me into attending a presentation about their timeshare units. Once we arrived to our room I was shocked at the lack of upkeep this property has. From the outside it really looks like a cute place but we were so disappointed. We had a studio unit. I asked about purchasing an upgrade when we arrived and I was told they were full. I asked for three keys as my 17 yr old son had joined my husband and I on this trip. I assumed the linens for the pullout couch would be in the room since we had discussed the third key for my 17 yr old. That night when getting ready for bed there were no extra bed linens anywhere. I called the front desk and received a flat sheet. It took 3 calls and three days to finally have sheets, blankets and pillows for my sons bed. After returning from dinner the 2nd night there were no parking spots available. I went to front desk trying to get the bed linens myself and ask what we should do about parking. The lady working at the side desk rudely ask me what did I want her to do about it. She said it’s first come first serve parking and that they don’t know how many vehicles people are going to bring. At the resort we normally stay at they allow 2 cars with reserved parking and anything after that is parked in an overflow parking lot. That works great and I thought it was just standard practice. We ended up parking 2 buildings away and walking. I was never helped regarding the bed linens as I stood in line for about five minutes and overheard the same woman tell another man to go back to his room and call for them because they did not keep them in that building and someone would have to bring them to him anyways. My question is why did she not tell me this and let me stand there as long as I did? The walls and ceilings have very little insulation and we unfortunately heard way more than we ever should have from the bedroom above us. The electrical outlet behind the bed I tried to use had no cover. The tub/shower had mold all around it The dirt and dust on the walls, baseboards and floors made me question their cleaning protocol they advertise as meeting Covid requirements. The carpets and furniture were stained and needed a deep cleaning or to just be replaced. The door sweep under our unit door was shredded and completely useless. I have several videos in addition to the pictures but I think you can see that spending up to $1100 to stay here for a week or purchasing a timeshare here would not be in anyone’s best interest. This experience had a huge negative impact on our much needed...
Read moreOverall, the stay was pleasant. I am a diamond member of Wyndham and staying at hotels, I had a little bit different expectation, staying at this resort.
One of the things I found out is that there is nobody coming in to tidy up your room every three days as a normal hotel would do. It also appears you are responsible for changing your own bed linens and emptying your own trash. As far as the trash is concerned, they do provide the bags in the cans, but unfamiliar with the policies we had no idea. I will say that the staff was very quick to respond to questions or concerns via a text message. I did have them bring new linens and towels to my room. They did that fairly quick. The room we stayed at is a little bit dated but very spacious and has all the amenities included. It even has a washer and dryer inside the bathroom area. It does have a nice standup shower and a very large garden tub with a shower. The dishes all seem to be clean on arrival and there was ample paper towels, and toilet paper. We stayed five nights and did not run out. We did, however, run out of laundry detergent, and they did provide us new ones complementary. A pleasant surprise that we did not use was the attached back porch meant for a couple of people that you could access from the living room or bedroom. We really didn’t utilize it.
On the complaint side, I only have a couple. The first one I noticed immediately when I entered into the room as there was likely pets before us, that left a urine smell behind. The property did do a pretty good job of covering it up with cleaning supplies, but my nose is quite effective when it comes to smells. I got over it very quickly but over the course of five days whenever I did come in my room again I did smell the pet smell each time. The other thing we’re the plumbing fixtures and they needed some serious updates. The water pressure in the bath area of one shower was not very good. and the faucet handle was very tight. The standup shower faucet handle was very difficult to control and you could not read which side was hot or cold so it took a while for me to figure that one out. On the tub side, the temperature control felt like it stopped at a point on purpose to where you couldn’t use much hot water even though you wanted more heat. Eventually I found that you could turn the handle further, but it took a lot of force.
Would I choose to stay here again in the future? Probably not. I used my points to book the room and wasn’t aware that this was a member’s/timeshare style property. They did call me a few times during my stay and offer me a gift if they could spend 90 minutes with my wife and I to try and get us bought in as members. My personal experience would not give me any incentive to become a member. There are several other hotels in the area that are as nice if not nicer that are not necessarily resort style hotels. Parking was ample and the grounds were kept nice. The concierge and check-in staff were very pleasant, friendly and professional.
I was on the edge of giving it a four-star rating, but I believe making some much-needed updates and having enough staff to where they could tidy up the room and change the linens every three days as policy or at least ask if...
Read moreThe good: Rooms are recently redone and clean. Bed is decently comfortable. Location is convenient to Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Express checkout via text message was quick. At $120/night, was a decent value for a Williamsburg hotel room in mid-July. / The bad: High pressure sales tactics to get you to go to a 90-minute time share presentation in exchange for "gifts" such as free Colonial Williamsburg or Busch tickets. If you agree to this, they will attempt to place a $60 deposit on your card, which you only get back if you attend the presentation. When asked about this they said it was because they need to pay the tour guide for their time - but you get the money back if you attend? Makes no sense. Had to repeatedly restate that I was not interested in this offer before I was finally given my room key. I was polite, but firm in my refusal to go along with this, and I could feel the air being sucked out of the room. It was like every staff member in the lobby was staring daggers at me and my wife for not agreeing to it. Insane. / This whole ordeal made me very hesitant and unwilling to contact the front desk for any help during our stay, which we needed, because the room did not have enough towels and the shower did not drain properly. But I didn't want to risk being held up again for a useless scam presentation. / It speaks volumes that they were trying to pressure us into this timeshare presentation when we had rented the room as a "guest" of a different timeshare owner via Trivago Deals. Clearly that person is regretting their purchase and trying to recoup some money on it. / The person who was trying to pressure us into this 90 minute timeshare even lied about the Busch Gardens opening times, saying opening was 11am when it was really 9am, to make us think that we would not be missing any park time if we went. Really dishonest business practices. / Be careful that you legitimately check out of this hotel when you actually leave. They charge $60 for the first late hour, and $100 for every subsequent hour, if you have not formally "checked out." This runs counter to what you expect from modern hotels, where you literally just leave the morning of checkout and MAYBE hand your keys back to the front desk. Another money grab from a scummy business. / Additionally, the air conditioning in the rooms is very poor. The hallways are frigid but the rooms are warm, even with the temperature turned all the way down. / Finally the room had an adjoining room next door which was locked with two doors separating it. Even with the "double door" locked on both sides, a LOT of sound leaked from the adjacent room, which made us feel uncomfortable and unsafe in our room. / This is enough for me to avoid Club Wyndham properties like the plague from now on. Spend extra, stay at a normal hotel, and rest assured that you will be treated like a person instead of some kind of...
