Meadows Original Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Williamsburg

After drooling over their social media, my husband and I decided it was high time to pay The Meadows Original Frozen Custard a visit! This charming frozen custard shop is located just off Colonial Williamsburg, and they boast an ever changing menu of specialty flavors.

What I’ve learned from Facebook is that The Meadows truly does take time and care to create the most exciting and unusual flavors, fresh daily, and today’s specialty flavors were lemon lavender shortbread and chocolate peanut butter cup.

Of course, we are creatures of habit, seeking out the best Oreo frozen treats one could possibly find, so we both ordered the Oreo Arctic Swirl, in vanilla custard - we were given the option to try chocolate custard as well.

An Arctic Swirl is a blend of sizable Oreo chunks; in fact, I believe I saw half-pieces of cookies tucked away in the folds of the luxurious frozen custard. I’ve never had such rich frozen custard, and my husband explained to me that custard contains egg yolks, which ice cream does not.

Given the friendly and helpful customer service we received on our first visit, we’ll likely be returning soon! I’m keeping an eye on those flavor specials, as I am a die-hard chocolate...

I was really looking forward this place opening and I have not been disappointed! I’ve been three times so far and used the drive thru all 3 times. Ordering is easy and the menu has always been up to date since they have new custard flavors everyday. Service at the window is fast and friendly. I’m not new to frozen custard which is like a richer version of soft serve ice cream (not a mousse) and I’d say Meadows is definitely some of the best I’ve had. I also love that they rotate flavors which will keep me coming back. 😊 I also tried the frozen yogurt (raspberry) on one visit and found it to be flavorful and delicious. Just a tip: It is a lighter treat so might seem thin compared to custard or soft serve. And the best part of all is that their employees are super friendly and I don’t feel judged for my multiple visits in a somewhat small timeframe (lol)! They even gave my pups a free sundae the first time I came in exchange for a quick photo! And let me get a free cone on my birthday when I misunderstood a Facebook post. Seriously made my day. Super sweet & awesome...

Pretty good product, poorly trained staff. Being a new establishment, I look forward to going back to see improvements.

Edit: Extra star and amplifying info for owner inquiry. My wife and I visited late at night and only 2 people were on staff to handle the busy drive-through, customers at the front, and product replenishment. So we waited about 15 min at the register to be helped. The extruder for the custard item my wife ordered was empty, so we ended up waiting longer for the product because the machine had to be filled. The custard item I ordered was very warm either because of extruder settings or storage conditions. I feel this may have been preventable with an additional staff member and a little training.
