Visited week between Christmas and New Years 2022. Checked in on Tuesday evening. Place looked pretty deserted which was great for us. Very clean and modern looking. Older gentlemen checked us in with no problems. He asked if we had any room preferences and suggested we take room on ground floor next to pool, gym and game room. Was a little hesitant but he suggested we take a look before deciding. Concerns about privacy but the room faces an empty wooded lot so it was perfect. We were in room 104. It was adjacent to gym and in front of arcade and a few steps from the indoor pool and elevator. We stayed in a 2 queen bed room with pull out sofa and had our 3 kids with us (13, 10 and 7).
Room: Bathroom was clean. Only included 4 sets of towels, went to front desk for more and they gave us extras of everything. The bathroom had a can of parmesan cheese in it... we took it to front desk and they apologized. The room had a mini fridge with freezer and also included microwave. Another critique was the room was very dark at night. Good luck seeing in the closet without a flashlight. The tv was nice and large. The shower was nice and clean. Good water pressure. Shower head could've probably been better. The AC/heater was under window and worked flawlessly. The pillows were a little small but we got 2 per person. The lack of outlets was a little frustrating. The clock had 2 usb ports on it but the regular outlets next to the bed were high up off of the lighting fixture.
Pool: kids visited 3 times. First night there were a lot of people there. The last day we were there by ourselves for almost an hour. It was very humid like a sauna. The pool included a shower on the side to rinse off which was honestly nicer than our in-room shower. The pool deck was clean. Not sure about the amount of chlorine in the water. It seemed to be a little more burny than normal. There was a hot tub too which had jets you could turn on at the wall. Towels were available in the hallway before you walk in, always well stocked. The pool closes at 11pm. Overall great pool facility.
Gym: we didn't use it but visited just to check it out. We did see other people using it during our visit. We didn't hear too much ruckus from it in our room since we shared a wall. There was a few machines and free weights. Not the largest but acceptable. The water machine was broken though. We checked and there was new water jug but it wasn't pumping for some reason.
Game room: as expected for a hotel. There is a machine by the front desk to get change for the games. They also have little store for snacks and missing toiletries etc. The games were a little on the older side. My kids don't normally play arcade games but we did see other kids and even teenagers in there playing on them.
Breakfast: was probably the best part of our visit. Go early! It can get very crowded and the seating fills up even though its a pretty large dinning area. The big hit seemed to be the 2 waffle makers. They have regular and cinnamon waffle batters. They also had hot dishes that changed everyday. Everyday had eggs. First day sausage patties and potatoes, second day hash and some kind of pork sausage links cut up, last day we had hashbrown patties and pork sausage links again. Breakfast also included juice machine with apple juice, cranberry juice, orange juice and water. They also had milk for cereal and yogurts. There are bakery goods too which rotated from toasting breads and muffins to danishes and fresh fruits. They seemed to always have 2 employees staffing the breakfast area between restocking items and cleaning and wiping up tables they were always on it and did an amazing job. They also have coffee, tea and hot chocolate available 24/7.
The hotel is located walking distance from both a golden corral and cracker barrel, neither of which we had tried before our stay here.
Overall our stay was amazing and I would gladly stay here again. Great staff...
Read moreSomething that many hotels fail majorly in is the way they neglect their guests' needs, especially with those that have almost made it their temporary "home" like me during my stay: room service not taking out the trash, not restocking, and even not enough staff. Well, I am here to say that the Comfort Suites of Williamsburg is not at all like these hotels I have described; rather, they are exceptional in all that they have been able to provide during my 18-night stay for business purposes before school, W&M, started. From the eye-catching, modern design in the gorgeous two-story hallway, to the rooms with a homey, contemporary feel, the design is all there. I was a bit confused when I stepped in the first day I was here, because I truly thought I was in the wrong place. "This can't possibly be the affordable 'budget' hotel that I booked," I thought to myself; but when I got up to the front desk and was greeted by Tim, the front desk manager, he assured me that I was in the right place, and kindly checked me in. Speaking of the staff, everybody that works here is top-notch and ultra-friendly. The gentleman I mentioned just now was personable and kind my entire stay, and never failed to strike up a conversation. True camaraderie like that was what made such a long stay like mine very pleasant; even the janitorial staff won't hesitate to greet you when you have to walk over the floor they just spotlessly polished. Now, one could of course throw a fit over the hot, daily breakfast not offering many selections and maybe being bland, but that really is overshadowed by the rest of the attributes this establishment offers; remember, they have a coffee and tea bar that is open all the time, which of course a busy fellow like myself utilized more than once a day. All in all, this whole branch of Comfort Suites, located walking distance from dining options like Golden Corral and Cracker Barrel, is a diamond in the rough; and maybe all Comfort Suites are like this, but if so, then I'll be staying at Choice Hotels, the owner of Comfort Suites, from now on. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone, especially for long stays; staying just one night might not be enough for you after seeing just how excellent the Williamsburg...
Read moreYour beds are 30" high. Did you realize that? One has to be as tall as a basketball player in order to climb (literally) into bed! It has been discouraging to see how beds have gotten so high over the years! I am on the short side (but even at 76, I still love to travel) and was afraid to even try to get into that bed for fear of falling! The manager gave us a 9" or 10" metal stool but that was so wobbly, I was afraid to step on it! I ended up sleeping on the sofa. I did not pull it out, just slept on it. Sadly, it wasn't very comfortable. I used my step stool while brushing my teeth and that was not a problem, AND, praise God, the toilet was low! I LOVED THAT! but the toilet tissue dispenser was way behind the toilet in the back corner. I ended up reaching for the kleenex box. If you would install the toilet tissue dispenser on the right side of the toilet into the front of the vanity, that would be helpful. Please realize that not everyone these days is tall. Other than those two issues, we were fortunate to get the last room in the hotel for that night and on the top floor! It was very quiet! I was elated that the room was very close to the elevator. The breakfast was very good and we like the International House coffee creamer (albeit our favorite flavor is hazelnut). We always leave a nice tip for the housekeeper who takes care of our room and for EVERY person who works in the kitchen! It's the least we could do. Everyone was very friendly, kind, and helpful! It would be so nice if hotels saved a few rooms with lower beds for those who are not blessed with being tall. I hope someone will read these comments and act upon the suggestions. We would like to visit this hotel again and we would if sleeping conditions ever improve. If they do, please let me know b/c we love Williamsburg and would definitely stay there again. Do you own any other hotels with lower beds????? ** Please kindly respond to...
