Massage Empress — Attraction in Duluth

I visited Empress Massage off of N. Brown Rd. in Lawrenceville on Sunday, 12/29/19 between the hours of 4:22pm and 6:00pm. My daughter and I visited this location to get the 1 hour body massage w/ the 30 minute foot massage for $65.

While the services were EXCELLENT the check out process was not.

My total came to $130 ($65 ×2). I attempted to pay with my American Express card. I was advised, that they do not take AMEX, if they do, I will be a $5 charge. Ok?? I then proceeded to use another form of payment (my bank card) in which I was NOT prepared to use. I then ask the lady at the counter about dividing up the tip as we had 3 different people (in total) doing our services. I WAS going to tip both body massagers $10 and the foot massager $5 (as she only did 30 minutes). As I proceeded to instruct the lady at the counter how I wanted my tip divided, she more or less advised me to tip 20% per person. The other lady on the side then added, that this not a restaurant and they do more than serve water and that their time is very valuable.

I was livid!! Never in my life have I been told what to tip. I tip based on the services I receive. I ALWAYS TIP VERY WELL. As I stated, the services were excellent! The lady at the counter totally misunderstood my tipping process and the fact that my original form of payment could not be used, that was also a small issue. This total killed my mood and upset me greatly!

I came to this location as I was in the area at the time. I have been here 3 times in the past and I have ALWAYS brought additional clientele with me. My daughter and I were looking to spend some much need time together and relax.

Instead, I was told what form of payment I could use and how much to tip. I felt bullied and insulted. I will NEVER return to this location again. Nor will I ever recommend this location to anyone.

This is my second time here & the first time it was okay I didn’t care to leave a review because they were short staffed & I couldn’t get the service I really wanted which happened a year ago. I usually go to empress massage 2 on Duluth but since this place is closer I decided to go here since I’m 9 months pregnant I didn’t want to drive the extra 5 mins. Anywho I called in & asked for someone who was experienced in massaging pregnant women also someone who would do a great job. I guess they usually charge $60 for a full body massage per hour but because I was pregnant I had to pay $70 which was weird because everywhere else I go they never up charge me because I’m pregnant. I said i was okay with paying the extra $10 because this location is closer even tho I get charged $60 even though I’m pregnant at the other location . The lady I got was good but it was annoying that she kept using her elbow & knuckles to massage my back especially because that’s not a real massage. That’s more of a lazy way for them to massage you so they won’t have to use their hands the whole time. If I’m paying what you ask for I expect a hand massage not an elbow & knuckle massage if I wanted to get rubbed that way I could’ve used my electric massage gun. Don’t get me wrong she was good when she used her hands but also as I was paying she had the audacity to count the tip in-front of me. I always tip 20% but I thought that was very rude of her to do. I could’ve tipped her less because she low balled me but I didn’t so this will be my last time coming here. This place should be called the Bone crushers, because literally they had this big guy come out , breathing heavy crushing down hard on my bones. They didn't even ask if I had a preference for a man or woman. Me and my fiance came in for couple massages and we're rushed to the back. I don't even think they were professional therapist. Just regular people trying to get paid for what they know. I told him it was too hard and he literally still continued to pressed down hard, I had to tap on table and tell him this at least 3 times during my massage I felt physically assaulted. It was so hard and unbararble it was not enjoyable at all. Then after we paid my fiance left both massage ppl a tip and the Chinese lady suggested we give them more. She told us how other customers usually leave 20% tipnof overall bill. They barely deserved the tip they were given and she had some nerve to ask that we give them more.
