Recently, my wife and I went to the Regal Fairfax Towne Center theater in Fairfax VA to see the newly released Bob Dylan movie "A Complete Unknown" and boy were we ever irritated by what was done to us as paying customers.
The movie was advertised as a 3:50 pm showing. We got there and entered the theater about 5 mins early. At about 4:00 pm, 10 mins. late, the screen and sound finally came alive.
But it wasn't the movie!!
For about 30 mins. (until 4:30 pm) we sat there being subjected to overly loud irritating commercials and advertisements. REALLY OBNOXIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!
On and on, and on, and on they went.
Then finally we thought the movie was starting -- but it didn't. For the next 10 mins., we were subjected to upcoming movie previews. About six previews altogether.
Finally, at about 4:40 pm the previews and commercials ceased and the feature film we came to see started.
That was 50 mins. AFTER the advertised start time of the movie we paid to see.
Not only did Regal waste 50 mins. of our time subjecting us to useless, loud, obnoxious commercials and previews, but Regal is committing false advertising. When Regal advertises a movie will start at 3:50 pm, then it should start at that time!!
Not 50 mins later.
We almost couldn't stay for the full movie because of dinner commitments we had, never expecting to be intentionally delayed by Regal for 50 mins.
Regal needs to smarten up. When Regal creates an irritating, obnoxious movie experience like what we had yesterday, Regal causes people to not want to return.
And on top of this, with 60 inch+ big screen TVs at home, 5 channel surround sound systems, comfortable seats, free food, free popcorn and drinks and the ability to stream movies we can pause, replay, control volume, etc. all at the click of a remote, THERE IS LITTLE NEED TO GO TO A MOVIE THEATER ANYMORE!!!!
Now..... have Regal create an irritating, obnoxious experience that you have to pay for, and there is absolutely no reason to go to a movie theater anymore. I assure you we will not, at least not to a Regal Cinema.
As I hope Regal realizes, the movie theater industry is a dying entity, the experience is no longer unique (or as in our case, even enjoyable).
The only question is--- how fast will it die. To answer that, given the experience we had, death is going to be rapid!!!
Good luck. Farewell. Time to bury the movie theater in the grave yard.
Oh, and PS…… I complained to Regal about our terrible movie experience and they never responded with anything of meaning. That’s how they treat their paying customers!
So much for “REGALESS” Cinemas.
My recommendation--- DON’T...
Read moreI'm starting to really dislike this theater. The motorized reclining seats are very very nice but every time I've gone to this theater there has been one big problem or another.
Just to sum it up Most recent trip to Watch Dragonball Z- Movie cut in and out repeatedly. First time it cut out it skipped a good 10-15 minutes of the movie, right at the good part! The movie theater didn't move it back and when I complained after the movie I was just given a couple free ticket vouchers and told I was lucky I was able to see it at all (their other showing didn't work at all and they had to refund all of those others. I shouldn't have to consider myself lucky to sit in a poorly managed theater that can't get their stuff together.
On at least 2 other occaisons at this theater I went to watch a 3D movie and management forgot to turn on the "polarizors" (not sure if thats what they called it) which was causing problems with the 3D. There's no reason why I should have to get up in the middle of the movie to make sure managment does their job. Don't movie theaters usually have someone sit in on the movie (at least at the beginning) to make sure everything is running smooth?
On almost all occasions I've been to this theater I've had to ask someone to clean my seats. I'm not a super clean freak but there shouldn't be visible trash and popcorn still laying around at the start of a new movie and my seats should definitely not be sticky (which is usually the problem).
One occasion the movie ticket person didn't give my family and I our 3D glasses, I had to ask him after sitting down at the theater.
The reason I like coming here is I think the seats are awesome and it's more convenient to use the restroom in the middle of the movie, but if the quality doesn't improve I'm going to be forced to stop going to this theater and settle for AMC, Bow Tie, or xtreme since they don't appear to be having these problelms.
I don't consider myself lucky to sit at a poor quality movie theater that can't even play a full movie...
Read moreI recently found myself in Fairfax for work and decided to catch a movie at the closest location, the Fairfax Regal Theater. In hindsight, I wish I had taken the time to read the reviews.
Upon arriving, I noticed the theater was eerily empty. After a brief wait, a friendly staff member at the snack bar assisted me by scanning my ticket. The theater itself felt very dated, though it was clean. When I entered the screening room, I was surprised by how small and old it was. To my discomfort, there was only one other person in the theater, a gentleman who appeared to be homeless. I greeted him in an attempt to ease my unease, but he simply stared at me.
After a 14 minute delay, the previews finally started, but that was interrupted by the man playing YouTube videos loudly on his phone just a few seats away. I hesitated to say anything, feeling intimidated by his presence (and no one else around) and appearance.
When the movie finally began 32 minutes late, he continued his disruptive behavior playing his phone again. Mustering up some courage, I asked him to stop, but he reacted menacingly, standing up abruptly, staring at me with his eyes bulging out of his head and moving to a different, row 3 rows behind, where he cranked up the volume even more.
Feeling uneasy by his demeanor and the whole situation, I decided to leave. On a positive note, the theater staff were understanding and refunded my ticket. One young worker mentioned that they had been dealing with issues with another man in glasses, indicating that this kind of disruption might not be uncommon. This wasn’t not the man the worker was describing. I would have liked for them to ask him to stop playing his phone or to leave. Any intervention at all.
Overall, my experience at the Fairfax Regal Theater was unsettling. I would recommend finding a different venue for a more enjoyable...
