I accepted a position with The City of Corpus Christi and in my excitement to move into the area I failed to read the reviews about the Cosmopolitan, please don’t do the same. This is my first and only review I have posted on Google. I want to be objective and give an honest assessment of my experience at the Cosmopolitan Apartments. I had a very unpleasant encounter with the manager, Heather, who was very confrontational when I questioned her about some charges on my move-out invoice. I lived in the Cosmopolitan for almost two years. First in a 1BR for a year, then in a 2BR for the second year. When I moved from the one to two bedroom, I asked what was required of me for move-out. I was told to turn in a clean apartment and pay a transfer fee. I did that and had no issues. A year later, when I was ready to vacate my second unit, I asked the same question. I was told to either clean it myself or pay for a professional deep clean for a fee of approximately $350. I agreed to pay for the professional service and left it in their hands. The Cosmopolitan was the one to procure the professional cleaning service for that fee, so I expected them to do a good job. To my surprise, I received an invoice for over $900. When I called Heather to ask why I was being charged that amount, she became combative and said that the apartment was nasty and it had to be painted because it was too hard to clean (for $350 would you expect somebody to call your apartment nasty? Of course it is dirty, I'm paying $350 for professional service). She did not explain why nobody contacted me to inspect or remedy the problem, or why a professional cleaning crew could not do their job properly. In my opinion, it is apparent that professional cleaning was not done, and they took a shortcut by painting over areas that could have been cleaned with the right tools, supplies, and efforts. Heather refused to listen to my concerns and cut me off several times. She said that what was done was done and she had the final word. I asked her for proof of professional deep clean services and a receipt for the charges, but she denied me both. She said that she had no obligation to provide me with any evidence or documentation, and that I had to trust her word. This seemed very shady and unfair to me. I met her in person on 9/7/23 at around 11am CST to discuss this issue further. I had tried to visit the office the day before, but it was closed and there was a sign that said to text a number to have somebody come to the office (which apparently is not an official means of communication). I texted the number but got no response. When I mentioned this to Heather, she said that text messages were not valid forms of communication and that I should have called or emailed her instead. However, the sign clearly said to text, not call or email. I felt that Heather treated me with disrespect and dishonesty. She did not provide any proof or justification for the charges, and she did not try to resolve the issue in a professional manner. She seemed to only care about making money from me, not about providing quality service or customer satisfaction. Additionally, I requested various services when I first moved in and ongoing items and issues to be replaced or fixed. Alen, the one in charge of maintenance, did an outstanding job, but he could only do so much. The place is far from luxury and shows signs of wear and tear. The pool project was a failure that was not completed in the time I lived there. Some items I brought up to their attention were never fixed. Now that I no longer live there, they are in a rush to repair the unit and charge me for it. I would not recommend this apartment complex to anyone. If you are looking at this apartment, I would advise you to stay away and read other reviews. I personally know people who lived there as well and left a negative review, but the management discredits them by saying they are not in the system. Some reviews say that Heather is nice, well, only during the tours, and if no concerns...
Read moreRun as far as you can from this place. I rented here for a year and I knew it was a mistake from the start. It only got worse JLR took over. Heather is one of the rudest people I have ever met. She has been more than ugly to me on multiple occasions for absolutely no reason. Candace has her days where she’s great and others where she can be unpleasant as well. When I moved in there was water damage that I had mentioned to the office on my bathroom ceiling. It was never fixed and eventually turned to mold. That was still never addressed by the previous company. When JLR took over, the maintenance men came up and looked and confirmed that it was mold but never returned to fix it. A week or so later I noticed my maintenance request had been closed. Before move out I approached them about the issue again and when they came back up they called it “normal mildew”. On top of that the hallways always smelled awful, there were pee stains on the hall carpet, there was always something wrong with one of the elevators. They will also charge you an outrageous cleaning fee. I was told $50 was the standard cleaning fee. And being that I left the apartment 10x cleaner than when I received it I didn’t see an issue. However I was charged $150 for the small patch of carpet in my bedroom, and $250 for the rest. Knowing they didn’t even probably clean that apartment due to how clean I left it is what really bothers me. And if you’re in an outside facing unit you will hear absolutely everything going on on the streets. Worst experience renting here, and even worse management. Will never ever recommend anyone moving in here. Not worth the price or the stress. And everyone with the good reviews who are excited to move in, i’m sure they would be great and professional. They need to fill the vacant units. But y’all just wait.
Edit: I never claimed to leave emails or voicemails, I did maintenance requests as I was directed to do. Although I have not reached out to them the response from the Cosmopolitan shows they are not willing to take responsibility for their rude management and poorly maintained community. Insinuating my review was dishonest shows the lack of integrity from...
Read moreA one star rating is not sufficiently low to accurately portray this “luxury” apartment. The apartment is incredibly overpriced for what it is and the quality of staff you have to deal with while living there. Upon move-in it was evident the apartment had not been thoroughly cleaned following its prior tenant vacancy. An industrial sized floor cleaner had been left in the unit unattended. The sink and shower was full of dust and dirt. The apartment wreaked of mildew. Great first impression of this “luxury” apartment. Since being settled in, the apartment has not been short of issues. The stairwell from the parking garage constantly smells like garbage and waste. The hallways consistently smell dingy. The in unit garbage disposal works half the time. The washing machine is faulty. The walls are paper thin. The windows might as well be non-existent. You can hear every bit of noise from all surrounding areas. The garage door is broken more times than not giving anyone the ability to enter the garage as they please, an unsavory flaw especially living in downtown corpus. My car was broken into and property was stolen. Upon reporting it to the office staff they said there is nothing they can do and it is not their problem. Again, not nearly worth the small fortune you pay to live here. However, I am unsure what is worse, the constant inconveniences of living here or the staff that manage the property. I recently had the pleasure of contacting Heather from the front office in regards to my lease agreement which is not readily available to residents after you sign here. Over our phone call she hastily yelled “I do not need your snide f* comments, you are not the top priority” after I politely asked her for a copy of my lease agreement. The interaction was downright unprofessional and it is a shame Heather is the manager of the property. Overall my experience at the cosmopolitan has been mediocre at best. I would highly consider living elsewhere in the Corpus...
