So I debated posting this review because honestly, I’ve been a fan of Dude, Sweet Chocolate for years and have had plenty of good experiences with them. But I do think this most recent experience needs to be shared.
I went to their shop this past Sunday to pick up their Albatross Fudge. The fudge itself is amazing: the perfect touch of blue cheese with dark chocolate. It’s a pairing that shouldn’t work on paper, but they pull it off.
Anyways, the negative experience came when I was trying to check out. Apparently their register system wasn’t working - this was a bit of a red flag itself because another group had checked out a few minutes before me without any problems. But hey, technology can sometimes be unreliable right? So I say okay, I can wait a couple minutes for the employee to restart the system. The worker then says he can still take cash, and since I have some on me I decide to just go for it.
Now, according to their website the Albatross Fudge is $13 even: so if my math checks out that’s a little over $14 after tax. I hand over a $20 bill. The worker then opens the register, says something to the effect of “Oh sorry we don’t have exact change”, and proceeds to hand me a few coins. I can tell immediately it’s not enough change to cover what I’m owed. I’m honestly stunned, it’s just wildly unprofessional behavior. The worker gives a sheepish half-apology, and at this point I’m running late and it’s not worth putting up a fight so I just wish him a good day and leave. When I get to my car and count the change, it’s $2.15. So long story short, I got scammed out of a few bucks.
Is losing a few bucks the end of the world? No, but the whole situation just felt sketchy, uncomfortable, and really just completely unprofessional. It’s a shame because I do love the chocolate itself and have been a customer for years, but this experience makes me question ever...
Read moreI just had the most unpleasant experience here. I was so excited to come here with my gf. We were looking at chocolates, deciding what to get, and I told some story (not loudly). Then, suddenly, I hear an incredibly loud “HEY!!”. I look at the source of the yell and it’s the proprietor, looking at me, who proceeds to say “let me know if you have any questions. okay you can go back to talking now.” Oh my god, how RUDE can you be!? What an asinine thing to say, so condescending. Everybody in the place turned and looked. To interrupt me loudly to tell me they can “help me” pick out a chocolate? And then condescend to tell me I can continue with my conversation? Absolutely disgusting behavior, at what used to be one of my favorite establishments. Needless to say, I will never return to this establishment. And, I strongly recommend that nobody patronizes it for as long as this comically rude person is running things.
Edit: I saw the response below, and am dismayed. I had to read it out loud to my gf and she looked at me in disbelief that I would be accused of fabricating something we literally both experienced, as it happened in realtime. In that moment, at your store, she told me that was completely uncalled for. I truly don’t know what else to say. I don’t know who Eddie is. All I know is that this ruined my visit to bishop arts today, and it affected me all day to think that someone would be so rude to me. If you’d like to talk to us in person, I can ask my gf if she’d want to discuss this matter further, but to be accused of lying about something that happened in front of my own eyes and within obvious earshot (since I was shouted to) is...
Read moreThis shop is so sweet, words don't do it justice - you need to go in and experience it for yourself. I have been making a point of supporting and talking about more of our local businesses. The past few years have been really tough, and we have started losing some that just couldn't hang on any longer. Katherine has not only hung on, She has continued to give back to the community no matter what insanity has been thrown at her. There is ice cream, and then there is Dude Sweet Chocolate Ice Cream, and Sundaes. Today they had their first Ice Cream Sundae Social on Saturday, and I think we were one of the first in line. She had done this before, and set the bar so high no one else could reach it. Texas Blueberry and Nectarine Sundaes, and a Dulce de Leche Sundae - how do you choose? Because we knew that the Dulce de Leche would have there world renowned chocolate incorporated in it, we both went for that, but seriously thought about coming back for a round two with the nectarine later. Housemade chocolate, caramel sauce, cones, and of course ice cream let us know we made the right decision. But we are still coming back for that nectarine sundae - I can't stop...
