How wild it must have been when John Neely Bryan came to Wild Texas! The Peter's Colony -- the banks of the Trinity River! So glad that this little cabin stands as a testament to the pioneers who forged onward to get here and establish this empire we call Dallas. My own Great-Great-Great-Grandfather arrived in 1846 ! I am a descendant of a a Dallas Pioneer! His land was granted to him from The Peter's Colony in 1846 - The George Floyd Survey in South Dallas. This little cabin -and so many more started it all! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: Native Dallasite - Home Sweet Home- Roots since 1846!

This is a replica of the original cabin built by Tennessee native, John Neely Bryan, who settled in the area in 1841, around a quarter mile from this location at present day Founders Plaza. The original was destroyed by flooding in the late 1800s. It is a important reminder of the homes constructed by the early settlers in the Dallas area that you can view at Founders Plaza in the downtown area. It can be conveniently seen while visiting the JFK assassination related attractions.

This quaint tiny cabin in a green downtown park is representative of the homes of the pioneer founders of Dallas. The cabin contracts with the shadows of surrounding skyscrapers, and shows the texture of decades of weathering. There is a plaque next to the cabin explaining it. There is paid street and garage parking in surrounding blocks.

This is a nice little cabin, but the signage isn’t great and it would be better if there was a little more context. For instance, the cabin wasn’t originally at this location, and also doesn’t have much to do with the people talked about in the plaque and sign. If you liked this and want more of the same I recommend visiting Heritage Park- it has many relocated historical buildings, including log structures. The signage and context...
