Take the free ferry to the island. Tell the pilots you want to rent a paddle board or kayak. Kayaking around the island is fun. Gopher turtles not above ground when I visited. The island is very jungle like. Lovely trees, palms, greenery and some flowers. There are boardwalks and ground trails and picnic groves. A lot of people were lost on the trails, make sure to grab a map. Saw blue herons and egrets, adult and babies, iguanas, anones.Fish were jumping in the canals. Read moreThe island is quite nice and tranquil. We found the shuttle easy for transport over to the island. We walked every path on the island and like the other reviews said, it is jungle like. I had been here a number of years ago and I thought the renovations to the paths to be great. I liked all the informative signs too. We saw birds, crabs, iguanas, and oh so many spiders. They were sizable too! Some were hanging in the paths or overhead. On the bright side, they weren't really moving around, just hanging out, so you could avoid them. Read moreI think it's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. You can reach the island by free ferry. The ferry operators are very polite and helpful. The ferry is very clean. You can enjoy the tour, but it's very short 😂 There's a short walking tour on the island, maybe you can explore a bit with your kids, or have a picnic.
