On my tour through Deerfield Beach, I stopped by Fat Boyz’ Barbecue for a plateful of good eats and good meats. The restaurant appeared to be opened in the past few months and I had driven by so often, but never stopped in for a meal. After pursuing the menu, I ordered a plateful of Brisket with sides of Mac and Cheese and Baked Beans. After taking my seat, I could not shake the feeling the restaurant started out as a food truck, seeing how it was plastered on the menu and the restaurant’s selection was not much larger. After mulling things over, I was finally served my plateful of Brisket and sides. Initially, I was stunned! The food looked delicious and I took pictures in delight of how astonishing the food had appeared before my very eyes! However, reality struck when I bit into the food, as the Brisket was dry and the sides were scalding hot! To complicate matters worse, I did not anticipate any issues with allergens, but I certainly found trouble during my meal.
The troubling thing is how quite a few of the foods and sauces at Fat Boyz potentially contain allergens, such as Soy or Soybean Oil, which could have been mentioned on the menus; I never would have thought it a concern considering the restaurant offers very little in terms of fried foods (Soy was in the barbecue sauces and I didn’t think to ask because I never had a problem with BBQ sauces containing soy before eating here). While I could be seen at fault for not inquiring about allergens, I did ask after having issues with my meal, and the staff was unable to give clear answers beyond the baked beans containing soy; this is one of many side dishes! The potential for concerns or allergens in the restaurant’s offerings should have been more transparent (not very hard to do when the majority of the food is beef and pork).
Fat Boyz has potential, and I do not believe my bad experiences are reason enough for others to have bad experiences while dining at the restaurant, but I can’t see myself eating here again. On a side note, mad props for having clean dining areas and bathrooms; I have seen five star restaurants with bathrooms worse than the ones I have had the displeasure of using at gas stations / rest stops. It’s the one thing...
Read moreDisappointed! Displeased! Disgusted! I have been to barbecue places all over the country and my wife and I make it a hobby to find good barbecue when we travel, so I had a lot of high hopes for this place based on Google reviews, the rating, the menu and the pictures, but it just simply sucked.
The food was very mediocre. My wife and I got ribs, brisket, mac n' cheese, potato salad, and baked beans. The meats did have good smoke to them and were juicy and tender, but lacked good flavor. WAAAY under seasoned! The mac n' cheese tasted.....off....like spoiled ingredients were used. The potato salad and baked beans were okay, but barbecue restaurants can't run on good sides. The price was about like any other barbecue restaurant.
The service wasn't the greatest. The girl at the counter was rude and unprofessional. She sighed very loudly and rolled her eyes then put her hand on her forehead and expressed her annoyance just because we didn't know what we wanted as soon as we walked up. It also took quite awhile for us to get our food. We observed that many of the workers didn't care much about professionalism either.
The restaurant was too small and there wasn't enough seating. It was dirty and no one was clearing and cleaning tables once customers left. It was also uncomfortably hot. They did have good parking and the restaurant was centrally located and had good aesthetics.
Overall, I do believe this place has all the potential of a truly great restaurant, but they don't hit the mark. It's obvious they haven't found their groove like any great barbecue restaurant does. It is also obvious they don't value excellence and are okay with how they do things. They don't seem to take themselves or their restaurant seriously. Unfortunately we will never be back and I suggest skipping out on trying...
Read moreSo.....the bbq is good but the service.....isn't.
The staff behind the counter appears very confused.....and slow. I do understand that everything is cut to order but when you're so disorganized that you lose a ticket... and then run out of an item because you have filled other orders ahead of the lost one....and then say, 'you can just order something else' isn't really acceptable. After finding my lost ticket it still took a long time to prepare. When i had reached my limit of frustration I said, 'if it's going to take much longer to slice 1/2 lb of brisket just refund that," a guy in a red shirt raced out from the back and got a bit to close to attempt any kind of service recovery and said 'what's your problem?'
While it's a further drive for me, I will be going to 4Rivers in Coral Springs from now on.
I see you responded to my review and asked what my service problem was. It was clearly stated in my review but:
1;You lost my order ticket 2:You ran out of an item because you fulfilled other orders that were behind mine 3:No attempt at service recovery was made 4:When i asked for a refund of the brisket because it was taking way too long a staff member raced out, got in my face and asked me what my problem was.
There you go.
I changed my rating from 3 to 1 stars due to the lack of a thoughtful response. After reading other negative customer experiences the owners replies are dismissive at best. There are opportunities for service recovery and there are lost opportunities...
