I don't know if people will read this or believe the integrity of my review, but I do hope that at least LA Fitness management does pay attention to what people are saying about their experience with their brand/franchise.
My honest experiences here have been quite poor. The facility (and parking lot) are not the newest and it shows; it's a bit inconvenient and borderline cramped feeling; some days it feels like so many of the inconsiderate and ignorant patrons are wearing heavy amounts of cologne/perfume/fragrances but these points are not even close to my largest of contention.
Some of the staff here is horrid. We'll start with the smaller potatoes... one of the employees that spends most of his time "cleaning" can be better described as trying (very poorly) to look busy but is very clearly just going through empty motions except for heavy people watching (mostly form upstairs at the floor) as well as awkwardly pretending to wipe down machines that people are still currently using but now have their space being invaded which I personally found to be either frustrating if not just distracting or even startling.
All of this so far had still done nothing more than just leave a sour taste in my mouth though and chalked it up to being standard par for the courses down here in south Florida. It was not until I had began encountering another staff member that at the very least prompted me to write a review and fired me up enough to share my experience with anyone else that I knew or might relevantly encounter.
This tall thin caucasian male that usually works toward the front of the desk rows was never my favorite person because he can usually be seen ironically smoking cigarettes on the side of the building which is directly on path for the entrance/exit ramp that everyone else use for walking in or out of this plaza that don't use the stairs for whatever reason. Even if this person was coming in or going out or taking a break -- why they think smoking cigarettes of all things on one of the main walkways for customers to their place of business which also happens a health and fitness establishment is beyond absurd and out of touch.
Still, the reason why I felt this person crossed the line was because the way he treated my mother. She was using a guest pass with my wife and this jerk was truly excessive, insensitive, rude, and terrible on all of his failed customer service opportunities. I feel like she was hassled upon checking in and disgruntled that she hadn't "activated her guest account" yet and was very impolite about her overall guest agreement/activation/waiver process.
He then naively hid behind corporate policy that she should not be permitted to be guest since she had been a member within the last year. She explained that she hadn't been a member for nearly 10 months and that she was just accompanying my wife for the day and would be willing pay for a day pass if necessary or required. This customer service all-star and detective must have felt like he needed to know why my mother would dare be be an inactive member for under 12 months and double dare attempt to come as a guest with my paying wife's membership. So she explained this last year was hard for our family with the loss of her husband and my father and that she just hadn't the time or enthusiasm to keep up for now. His response was lackluster and underwhelming; certainly not redeeming in any way.
Experiences like these reinforce my mother's decision to re-join with a new gym elsewhere as well as personally inspire me to consider other options and becoming more vocal about things like this to others.
TL;DR: facilities and parking are sub-par, other patrons are often off putting (i.e. wearing strong fragrances, generally not being too polite, etc.) , and certain staff members encountered have been on average from obnoxious to infuriating -- particularly the tall white slender man that smokes cigarettes on the side of the building right in front of the entrance/exit ramp and usually parks his desk near the front row...
Read more!!This gym deserves an 1 but before I let out the wrongs they have to be true all around they great font desk service and the class instructors are good too. BUT the lies and THE way they act towards THE CUSTOMER once they find out you don't want a personal trainer or to spend MORE money is awful firstof all I just canceled today I was told I would get 1 free hour with a personal trainer to go over nutrition, workouts and ect. Not to mention before I even handed my card over to the GM(Bojoe) or whatever his name is, I specifically asked about guest services and he told me I could bring a guest every now and then but not for every workout or they would have to purchase a membership. I said okay and went thru with my membership . But I had to work out at this (Hillsboro)gym because pompano is under construction. Get there ask about my guest which was to be my husband when he finally did decide to come was Barley greeted by the GM there he so stiff and so unwelcoming. Furthermore I explained what I was told by the GM at pompano he was like no , no way then the front desk explained to me about guest services. I would think he would at least call or just to help me find a solution nope he really just didn't care. Secondly my "1 hour session" that's supposedly included in my package never happend . it was more like trying to get me to purchase a trainer I didn't learn anything I don't know which machines will help me they sent me on a treadmill then sent me another lady to walk around the gym and its just a big scam once Clayton found that I wasn't going to make a purchase without my husband or that he wasn't getting any money I was just thrown away and what made it so bad was he basically didn't finish my session to finish with another who probably would be purchasing a trainer so I just felt so unwanted and thus is not a gym that cares for the customers who don't plan on getting trainers. Oh yeah and I was so offended by clay who told me he was gonna scratch my husband off as my support because he would mind if I made a big financial Decision without him. Worst experience ever think I'm going to...
Read moreLA Fitness has terrible policies regarding canceling your membership, so I don't recommend going w/ LA, but even more-so, can't stand the Deerfield location. 90% of the patrons who frequent this location are men who spend more time lifting weights than sleeping. There are signs in the bathrooms asking not to inject steroids on-site. Girls should not come to this location unless they like being looked at like a piece of meat on a skewer at a Brazilian Steakhouse. The entire facility smells of BO, which is close to unbearable in the locker room. The entire building needs to be stripped of all carpet and sanitized everywhere. This place is gross in every sense of the word. The machines are old, dirty, not well maintained or cleaned. The only reason to go to LA if you're not a meat head testosterone fueled man is because of the price. The classes are actually not terrible. The Yoga and Zumba classes are pretty good, but are positioned right in front of the machines so guys can sit in the machines and watch your backside through the completely clear glass while you do a class. The parking is adequate! However I'm pretty sure everyone feels unsafe going from the parking garage to the 1st floor, especially if you take the stairwell. If you need a fitness center in Deerfield that is low priced, go to YouFit. It's the same price, new machines, same classes, not smelly, not scummy crowd, and much better customer service. If you want a fitness center that's nice and can afford a little more for the monthly cost, go to Lifetime Fitness. If you want a serious full body interval training workout, go to Orange Theory in Lighthouse Point. As another reviewer stated, they really only care about signing people up and getting you stuck into a close to non-cancellable contract that people wind up keeping because of how difficult it is to cancel. This place is the worst of the worst. Don't do...
