Don’t stay here unless you like food poisoning, getting ripped off & Cockroach's! I am very sad to have to do this, but it must be done. My family and I come to Delray Beach several times each year for the last 4 years. We have stayed at every hotel in the Delray Beach area. This time, we finally were able to get a reservation at the Cranes Beach House. The room was tiny but up to date and clean. I don’t like to be a complainer so I didn’t even go down to the front desk to tell them that our door handle was messed up and stuck when trying to use the key, that the bed was very squeaky, the toilet paper holder was broken and hanging off the wall, and that the toilet ran unless you giggled the handle and place it in the exact perfect spot to stop the water from running. I also didn’t mention that two days in a row we didn’t want our room cleaned so we used privacy sign but yet it was cleaned anyway. When things really got bad was our 2nd morning there. I went to the tiki bar to get my fiancé coffee and minutes after finishing it, he was violently ill. We spent the day uber’ing to urgent care and CVS so that he wouldn’t be sick our entire vacation. After a whole day of him stuck in the room sick, I asked if we could upgrade to a bigger room so that we were not on top of each other as he was still very sick. Upon moving to a 1 bedroom suite - I tipped the “bellman” $20 for helping me move all the bags down the steps - 5 minutes into unpacking I saw a giant (4 inches I’d say) cockroach. In Florida they call them palmetto bugs - sounds must nicer, however, no matter which way you slice it - it a cockroach! We immediately decided to check out at 9pm after the 3 hellish days. I ran to the front desk completely freaked out as I had never actually seen a cockroach (even after living in Philadelphia & New York City for years) and noticed people were checking it. So I waited until they were finished before alerting the front desk of the giant bug crawling around our new room. I thought this was the nice thing to do, as to not alert the guests checking in.. In hindsight I should have went screaming thru the complex because I come to find out the hotel would not refund my money for that night and were going to be charging me the upgraded rate even tho we spent 5 minutes in the new room!!!! The “bellman/ maintenance man” came in with bug spray, sprayed the bug and LEFT IT THERE! I begged and nicely pleaded with the “manager” for my refund and they refused. They didn’t even offer me a day rate! The only reason we were forced to stay that day was because my fiancé was truly too ill to step out of the room. It’s the holidays, we are suppose to be on vacation and this place pretends to be a nice & lovely place to stay but it’s truly terrible. You’re better off finding another hotel that actually cares about their guests and especially ones that would have...
Read moreSmaller boutique Hotel and Villas. We opted to upgrade our stay and enjoyed on of the Luxury Villa's which we really enjoyed! There was plenty of staff on-hand to keep things clean and meticulous. The location is great, as you are an easy walk to the beach and/or the vast shops and restaurants on East Atlantic Ave. (the strip). There are certainly other larger and nice hotels in the area, but if you are looking for a quite, more personal setting this is a phenomenal choice. Parking (included with your stay) is close to all rooms and ring a couple sides of the property.
We arrived early and were luck enough to receive an early check-in (thank you Crane's Beach House). The grounds are well maintained with lush foliage, fountains and places to site and relax. There are two pools with somewhat limited seating, but were warmed to 82 degrees. Plenty of shade most of time, with the mornings offering the best chance for full sun (if you are looking to tan). If it wasn't sunny enough with the trees we just did a quick few minute walk to the beach.
The room was stunning, sleek and modern, starting with the touch pad entry system (vs. a traditional card or key). Nothing to lose or carry with you. Just take a picture of your code and room number (which they give you on check in to reference). The layout was great with the open floor plan for the living room / kitchen area. The rear deck was private and enjoyable with the Zen garden and adjacent fire pit. There were beach chairs in the room which we utilized when we strolled down to the beach. There were some bikes available (locked up) which we did not use. The ice machine is on the second floor above the main office. The Wi-Fi worked without issue.
Breakfast was simple, but helped get our day going (cereal, pastries, bagels, muffins, coffee, tea, orange juice, fruit, yogurt etc.). There was a gas grill by the breakfast area which I was unsure if it was available to use or not. There are also a couple grills centrally located by the north pool which went unused (the kind you need to have charcoal). There is a tiki bar with limited hours as well. Friday night they did have some live music which was a nice touch.
There are a few exterior items which could use touching up (paint, molding replacement) or traction treads on the stairs that could use refreshing. We had a turn down service the first night which included chocolates but the second night we did not receive this. From a big picture, it was a great experience and these few items did not detract from the overall stay. We would certainly return if we are back in Delray (which we would love...
Read more[ ] We were in Florida to visit my Dad. He died the first day that were were there. I called the hotel from the hospital and told them that we would arrive very late and that my father died and we would not be able to stay for the four night that we booked. The person that answered the phone was compassionate and said that he understood and of course we would only be charged for the nights that we stayed. I had explained that the funeral was in NY and we would have to get back. We arrived at the hotel after midnight and there was no parking spots available. We had to park on a very dark side street and walk back to the hotel with our bags. The next morning I went to see the person in the office. I once again explained the circumstances and he said that there was a no cancellation policy. Although I certainly understood the policy I explained to difficult circumstances and asked if they could make some sort of accommodation. He said that the circumstances were not the fault of the hotel and we would have to pay for all 4 nights. I asked to speak to the owner but was told she only accepts emails. I sent her an email explaining the circumstances and she never wrote back. The clerk told me later that he checked with her and there w out old be no accommodation despite the death of my father. We paid for all 4 nights. The room was just as bad. The air conditioner was extremely loud. They have glasses and plates in the room but if you Donny wash them you are charged a washing fee. There was no dishwasher and no dish soap or sponge. There was also a loud left blower outside very early in the morning. I have never written a bad review but this hotel was cruel. It was so overpriced for a hotel on dark side street with insufficient parking and a small subpar room. I would avoid at all costs. Finally my sister stayed at the Colony. The staff and accommodations...
