We sat in theatre 3, in the Bistro section. Dinner and a movie. We arrived 5 mins early. When we walked in the waitress was taking orders. 15 mins later the movie starts and they kept the lights on for the first 10 mins of the movie. We waited 50 mins and was not waited on. I walked to the front desk and asked if we needed to arrive earlier to place an food orders and the waitress of the theatre happened to walk by. The worker behind the concession booth repeated my question to the waitress, in which she replied no. I then stated how long we had been waiting to which she replied “I’ll be in there,” with an attitude, then walked away. Someone else came to take our order 5 mins later. The people to our right ordered ate and then reordered before we got our food. Sound system was subpar sounded only the front speakers where on. The screen had 2 cracks on the left side. 2 stars for the reclining chairs (heated and comfy), the place looks great and the food was excellent. They waited to bring out the checks 5-10 mins after the film ended. After coming to this theatre for years we were very disappointed. They used to meet you at the counter with your server and walk you to your seat. They had one server per row before Marcus took over. Maybe a little to excessive but one server for 50 people! I watched people walk out to order at the concession stand because it took too long. Would not recommend...
Read moreIn my first trip to this theater since the Marcus renovations, I had high hopes.
Last night, I saw The Crimes of Grindelwald in theater 2.
First, there are very annoying rope lights that never dim hung above the seating area, probably to serve as emergency lighting. They’re very distracting-I expect if I pay for movies to see them in near darkness. What happened to sconces on the walls? Or dimming the rope fixtures a bit? I noticed them while the lights were on during previews, and almost walked out when they didn’t dim when the movie started.
Second, the seats, while comfortable, were overly narrow (now, I am a large dude), but the seat reclining controls are positioned in such a way that my thigh kept triggering seat adjustments. Most disconcerting.
Third, there’s not enough low end in the sound system. I’m a recording engineer and audiophile, and give systems a pass for many sins, but it felt like the whole sub-100hz region was attenuated and not as earth-shaking during battle sequences as calibrated reference level output in my own home and friend’s homes (one of who aligns his system with a THX R2 for modified X Curve (for small room) target response.
Overall, nice facility, but there were a lot of technical things that preclude me from...
Read moreI went to see a Tenet with a friend on Sunday 9/13. The movie was amazing, a real thriller that can only be enjoyed in a large theatre format. I bought my tickets and ordered my concession online, super easy and fast. When I arrived I walked up to concessions where my food a drink cup was waiting for me. My experience was almost contact free. You could see the careful and numerous safety precautions the theater operator and staff had taken everywhere you looked. In the lobby, at concession, in the bar, theater and even restrooms. Our seats had been sanitized along with all the others in the theater and there was a safety strip/tape on them to ensure they had not been touched or used after cleaning. The seating was spaced far apart, so no issues social distancing. This place was cleaner and safer than any store I go to. I visit a major hospital in St. Louis each month for treatment and I felt much safer at the Marcus Des Peres theatre than the hospital. Everyone needs to get out and enjoy a movie. While I sat there the rest of the world and my worries all went away, just for awhile but man did it feel good. Oh, and the concessions were delicious too. No mater what I try I can’t duplicate the a as wonderful taste of...
