Told hubby I wanted a quick getaway the weekend before Valentine's (which also happens to be my birthday…yes born lucky!) Hubby did his homework on this one! He put me in the suite at Cochrane House! This place blows every casino hotel downtown out of the water! Yeah just try to book here first…worth it!
Now onto the actual experience! Upon entering this breathtakingly beautiful establishment, you will be greeted by two of the cutest sisters (Cina and Rica) you ever saw (sisters in both meanings as they are black beauties of the same parentage)! They will greet you with the warmest sunshine smiles that actually match the warmth and beauty of the very classy elegant place! They assured us they will stop at nothing to make sure your every need or concern is met right away and made good on it too! These smart ladies made sure all your senses were touched starting with the lovely smell of what I later learned was their signature house linen spray (should have asked if they sell it)! Somehow these two young ladies put their heads together and came up with the most beautiful decor! It’s luxurious and modern yet, still feels warm and inviting, calming and very soothing! I don’t know if it was the beautiful art and sculptures or the lovely well thought out and placed furniture and throws. Though, come to think of it, maybe it could be all the exposed brick and stone elements or the gorgeous bedroom with large tv, huge leather sofa, gorgeous king sized bed, luxury bathroom and shower. Maybe, it was the huge kitchen with every amenity known to man! The lovely glass of red wine and the chocolate covered strawberries certainly didn’t hurt! Speaking of food, breakfast sure made “hotel continental” look pathetic! Give me fresh baked biscuits, bacon and skillet cooked potatoes, caramelized onions and great coffee options over runny oatmeal, dry cereal, bagels and the huge drum of too strong, horrible tasting coffee any day! The location of this lovely gem places you within walking distance to many of the downtown attractions the Fox Theater, Comerica Park stadium, Little Caesars Arena and lovely restaurants like Harbor House, Fish bones (our choice!) and Loco’s just to name a few.
As if all this glory I just mentioned wasn’t enough, Hubs up his game one more time and surprised me with a full body massage “in house”. Either one of these lovely ladies can set this up for you when you book your stay. Make sure to ask for Ms Lisa Warren! This lady beat so many knots out of my neck and shoulders! By the time she was done, I was putty in my husband's hands! Hey, what happens at Cochrane House stays at Cochrane house! We’ll be back for sure!!! Book them...
Read moreIf you are looking for a first class, elegant, beautiful experience in Detroit, skip the "brand name hotels" and come to The Cochrane House. This Luxury BnB is the place to stay. ||Located in Downtown Detroit, but on a very quiet street (private parking included), within walking distance of major sports and entertainment venues along with a variety of restaurants and museums being close by.||The epitamy of elegance. An architectural gem. Attention paid to details. Themed rooms, insanely comfortable beds and bedding, each room is your own private suite. I love the spa like bathroom with a free standing soaking tub (handmade bath salts) and walk in enclosed shower occupying the same area. The exposed brick only lends to the integrity of this historic home/inn. (circa 1857).||The common area has an open concept. They ladies kept the original hardwood flooring and the space is impeccably decorated. The warm colors, books, baskets, eclectic art work, masks, the many textures, fabrics, strategically placed is both soothing, calming and pleasing to the eye.||I found it so cute that Rica and Cina were apologizing for not having taken down Christmas decorations ( it was a couple days after Christmas..Ladies ..please...its BEAUTIFUL!!!)||However, none of this would be possible were if not for the vision of the owners Rica and Cina, the James Sisters (and the work ethic instilled in them by their mother |"never give up on your dream"). ||From the moment you drive up, their smiles, their willingness to make you feel not only welcomed but more like a family member immediately puts you at ease. I've heard these sisters can "throw down" in the kitchen, however, my schedule would not allow me to stay and indulge but I definitely will on my next stay.||Ladies, thank you for the hospitality, thank you for letting everybody know Detroit Michigan is a great city to visit, and the COCHRANE HOUSE is the best place to stay. ||Highly...
Read moreRead moreI would just like to say that this place is top notch.... Everything about this place is done so professional and the owners are sweet as could be. From the first phone call for reservation to check-in to the time to leave, my family and I felt like we were part of their family. They did a beautiful job on the remodeling of the home and the steam shower was the best after a long day of entertainment at the Pistons game sat, then the Lions game on Sunday. They had wine and a cheese/cracker tray waiting for us when we arrived. It was such a warm & inviting place that we did not want to go home:-( This B&B is 8 min. away from Ford field, Little Ceaser Palace, Co America Park And Fox Theater and the Whole downtown strip. We felt very safe to walk the area, there was so much sight seeing we could n,t do everything we wanted ,So I recommend you do at least a whole weekend stay. My daughter(18) had her own suite, My husband and I had a nice (honeymoon) suite. Both decorated beautifully, Personal touches are perfect. Nice gated outside parking. Breakfast was served to our rooms at 9:30. We could smell the bacon cooking and our mouths were watering And no surprise that it was DELICIOUS and the maple grits were my fav. and over easy eggs were PERFECT. The stay was one of the best relaxing vacations I ever took and I truly feel you are missing out if you don,t at least stay here one nite and see for yourself. Those girls will spoil you rotten.
