Limited street parking. Depending on how much you pay for monthly Y membership, be prepared to spend 15-30 minutes looking for parking and walking from where you parked. Or be prepared to pay the skyrocketing downtown garage fees.
The pool hours are limited. 1-2 hours in the morning, and then from 4-8pm during the week. +- four hours in the late morning on weekends.
The pool schedule does not reflect the increase of private lessons, which gives the instructors permission to cordon off the family pool area.
The Y also seeks to encourage youth swim lessons and programs to very young swimmers. The lifeguards have removed all members from the family pool for an hour, twice, in my experience; due to young swimmers soiling the pool "accidentally ". All kids should know how to swim. But all kids should be potty trained before they're in this pool.
Lap pool lanes are seldom empty.
The dry facility has plenty to do. If the parking weren't an issue I'd have probably given the Boll Y more patronage. But as of reading that more and more of the pool hours are going to be occupied by lessons this week, I'm inclined to take my need for a pool to conduct PT and laps elsewhere, regardless of the limited options in Detroit.
I'd suggest hiring more lifeguards, expanding the pool hours, and incentives for Y Members to park in the 3rd party garages that surround the facility.
Otherwise this has become another $50 membership fee for something I rarely use.
If you are within walking distance and have non-swimming interests, I would still...
Read moreI sent my child to their child care facility for three months. At first I was quite happy. All the teachers seemed great and the kids did a lot of activities. I was especially excited that they went to the library every week. Until one day I walked over there to find out that they go over to the library to watch videos. I noticed the care providers would yell across the room to the children, instead getting up and talking to them on their level. The last straw was when it came time to sign a new contract, they increased my automatic debits by $80 without informing first. When I told them this would not work for my family, they took the money anyway. Upon asking for a refund, I was told it would take 2-4 weeks to get back over $400. I'm not quite sure WHY it only took them 1 day to take the money, but it takes at least 14 to return it. Upon trying to contact the executive director, I was repeatedly ignored. I would not send my child to their facilities for child care. They're more about business and their bottom line than the true care and nurturing...
Read moreWow I wish I would had read the reviews before I came to this place. I am in tears and literally hurting on the inside. My 3 year old son woke me up this morning asking to go swimming. I work nearly every day so we hardly spend time together. I called YMCA 3 times to confirm the pull was opened to the public before I arrived at 0945am. It took two people 30 minutes to sign us in as guest. They took my money and for whatever reason wrote down my credit card information. By the time we got dressed to get in the pool my son and I were kicked out because they were having classes. As we were getting dressed he was crying because he thought he did something wrong and he kept apologising to me. I did not know how to explain to a 3 year old how you guys made a mistake. Instead I had to apoligize to him as if I did something wrong. Oh on top of that! They didn't give me my money back. She said they had to wait until Monday?? Telling from the comments.. Doesn't sound to promising. Please dont waste a special moment in...
