The initial bookiing process was easy enough, but I had to call 6 times to change my reservation (reducing from 2 nights to 1). The online system wouldn't change the dates, saying that the hotel was full. This shouldn't be an issue when I was just trying to cancel my 2nd date. I gave up after a few tries on different days - always receiving the same message - and called the front desk. The first 2 times I called, no one picked up. The third time, a man picked up, but kept on put me on hold (with the music) twice for 5 minutes each and then asked me to go on hold again and just set the phone down. For 15 minutes I waited and could intermittently hear people in the background, but after I tried to call out through the phone, I eventually hung up. I then redialed and the man told me he had made the change, so I was waiting on hold for nothing. By this point, this whole saga had taken about 30-35 minutes. A few days before my stay, I had not received a confirmation of the change, so I decided to call again. I rang twice and no one picked up when selecting the "change a reservation" option. I dialed a 3rd time (the 6th call overall) and a woman (head of sales I believe) noted that the changes were not made and she helped me right away. Hooray, the saga was over (I incorrectly thought). I arrived for my stay and check-in was fine. Went up to my room and immediately founds a few hairs lying on the bed. Gross, but I was in a rush to get to the wedding and decided it was fine. I then found piles of hair on the hallway floor in the room, bathroom floor, several strands on the toilet seat, and upon pulling back the covers of the made bed, found more hairs and indentations in the bed. The room clearly had not been cleaned properly. There was also no soap or tissues in the bathroom. It was gross! I went downstairs and asked for a new room. My new room was fine but just had a few design/construction flaws. The safety bolt wouldn't close as the two pieces didn't fit together and the bathroom tap wouldn't go up all the way as it hits the mirror behind. Overall just shoddy construction and a terrible experience. I love Detroit, but will not stay here again nor do I recommend it to anyone. There are better hotel options in the city. Choose somewhere else!
