This hotel is huge. About 70 floors, we stayed on the 55th floor for 3 nights. Excellent city views, views of the Detroit river and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. HQ for General Motors. Plenty of cars to see in the lobby. #detroit #michigan #marriott #rencenter #detriotriver #downtowndetriot #motorcity #gm #generalmotors #hotel #hotelreview #fyp #fypage #foryoupage

BEWARE- BED BUGS. It’s long, but the people need to know. I was eaten up by bed bugs at this hotel. I have pictures. It’s miserable. I stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Center in Detroit for a work conference May 1 - 3, 2024. The first night I arrived, just as I was going to bed around 11pm, a bed bug crawled out from the pillows. I immediately called the front desk. I also noticed some residue on the wall that resembled dried blood that I later learned is likely from the bed bugs. For reference, the room was $250.00 per night. Look. I understand — it happens at hotels. Even nice ones (this one isn’t). Nonetheless, how the hotel handles it says a lot and this hotel left me SHOOK at how poorly I was treated. So, for starters, no one came to look at my room or assist with moving rooms. I had to ask that someone being me a trash bag to put my things in to reduce the risk of contaminating the next room. I waited in the hallway until midnight for my new room key and trash bag. They refused to send someone to check the new room for me because “housekeeping isn’t here.” The night staff could not explain the process or protocol for bed bugs. They told me I had to wait and call for the manager in the morning. The hotels were all booked up nearby, so I had no choice but to stay. The next day, I reach the manager on duty— someone named Jared who was refused to acknowledge what I as dealing with and lied about their protocol, never informing me that he is not the person who should be handling a bed bug issue. I had to ask for my belongings to be steamed. They asked me to bring them down, at which point I said someone should collect the items from my room. I have to work. Still, no one has notified the rooms next door or any of the conference organizers—nor has anyone confirmed the bed bugs in the room or even been up to check. Jared repeatedly said: “if the third party ex didn’t come last night, they’ll come today or tonight” — even though we both know they didn’t come last night. Finally, around 3pm the next day, Jared confirmed there were bed bugs and finally acknowledged the photo of the bed bug I showed him and the other staff at the front desk. I got the next flight home that I could. I missed much of the conference. Jared said they were “comping both nights, of course” and seemed confused as to why I’d want to cancel my third night. He cancelled the third night and I was not charged, but a $500 charge remains on my credit cards and the 500,000 Bonvoy points he promised me are not in my account. At the time, he said it may take two weeks to post, so I waited. I called for Jared this morning. He wasn’t in. Patrick said he’d get the message to Jared to return my call when he gets in at noon. I did not get a call back. I called again at 5pm and now Jared is gone for the day. When I called at 5pm, a woman Julia who unfortunately was not there to help when this happened let me know that I have to contact another person about the “pests” (they’re parasites). The other person is apparently in charge of any bed bug issue. This is the first time I had ever heard of him. So I now have to contact him to START a claim (you mean all of this wasn’t documented when I made the report and your expert inspector confirmed the bed bugs?). Jared, nor did anyone else I spoke with there, tell me I needed to file a claim to get any refunds or points. It was only when I spoke with Julia today that I learned Jared had done absolutely nothing.

Ok I dont think I will stay at a Marriott hotel again. Sadly this is my SECOND experience in a Marriott hotel where the bed was absolutely disgusting. It seems like Marriott as a whole has a serious cleanliness problem as I stayed at one in Richmond VA and it was equally as disgusting. Check in was smooth and the clerk that checked me in was very friendly. I asked for the highest room possible and he put me on the 46th floor. Nice view out the window however that is where it ends. The window sill was covered in dirt that looks like it had been there for years. I went to check my beds and it is CLEAR that the sheets were not changed. They simply re made the beds after the last guests checked out as I found hair and pubic hair on the bed! Eew. gross. We paid 300$ for the room and I got something I would not even expect at a Rodeway inn or Motel 6! Sadly the cleanest hotel chain i consistently see is Quality Inn. NEVER have I encountered a dirty bed there however BOTH Marriotts I have stayed at have had DISGUSTING beds! Also the commode in the room was not cleaned either! I go down to the lobby to show him the photos you will see attached and he apologized and said it was not acceptable. He puts me in a room on the 67th floor. That room was pretty much immaculate. clean beds.. No dust everywhere. It was properly cleaned. At the end of the day when I pay 300$ on a hotel, I should not have to change rooms because my beds were covered in hairs from the last guest. Also there is no free parking here but that is to be expected from a down town hotel. The good things about the hotel now: The elevator service was great. never had to wait more than 30 seconds for one. The bar on the 71st floor was very posh. The exercise room was AMAZING! The lobby is nice. the location is GREAT!!! In conclusion. This is a really cool property but the lack of cleanliness makes me wish I had spent my whole trip at the Quality Inn I stayed at for the rest of my trip. It was clean. This hotel if they could fix this issue would be a great property. I wasn't offered any points or anything, just a different room.
