My fiancé and I should have taken these reviews to heart before living here. We’ve generally always have had good experience with renting apartments in the past. However, we feel a very certain personality should live here and want people to know about this place before choosing this complex. This is the first public post I have ever written, and hope I don’t have to write another one any time soon.
First, it is an incredibly young crowd of people who live here; there are frequent college-esque parties that take place at the pool on the weekends with many non-residents who sneak in without badge access. Occasionally, there are apartment parties that occur too. It harkens back my days in undergrad dorms.
Then, the construct of the building is VERY cheaply done. Our upstairs neighbor stomps and paces above us, keeping us up until 2-3am bc of how loud it is. We have also had a repair request in for several weeks because our patio door doesn’t seal all the way, and we still have yet to have maintenance fix this.
Finally, we have had a package lost, despite being directly accepted by the staff here, but they are not liable based on a contract you sign before living here. Unless you wish to subscribe to their package lockers (an extra cost on top of the ridiculously high rental price), you’re SOL. The concierge staff is hit or miss. Some are incredibly helpful, but for the most part, they are young college kids who have indifferent attitude towards helping the residents.
Some may say you should contact the management. You would be correct. And my fiancé and I both have contacted Rae Lynn multiple times with cordial responses, BUT zero changes made. Hence, why I am writing this post.
Avoid living here if you can. Unfortunately, we are stuck here for our year lease, and we wish we weren’t. Seriously, take this review to heart. Unless you like hanging out with bros and hearing everything your neighbors are doing (including their morning alarms); then this...
Read moreI had the worst and most unprofessional experience with The Scott at Brush Park. I was assured that the staff was prepared for me to move in on September 1, 2024.
Upon my arrival, there was no property management staff on site to welcome me or provide instructions for the move in process. There was a security guard on duty who informed me that she would assist me with accessing the apartment because the staff was on vacation. I was provided an envelope with my name on it and an apartment number that didn’t match my lease. We went to two apartments trying to use the key provided with no success. We were unable to access the apartment, and I was extremely frustrated. The security guard eventually secured a master key to open the unit I was told I’d be leasing. I was placed in an ADA/Handicap unit and was never informed. The unit was not cleaned or prepared for my arrival:
Floors were dirty - unswept or unmopped Carpet in the bedroom has stains and smells Clothing racks in the closet weren’t property affixed Stains on the shelves in the bathroom Vertical blinds broken Refrigerator was pulled out and unplugged. I plugged it in and it does not get cold even after 24 hours. Garbage disposal is exposed. Uneven floors Weird smell coming off of the elevator on the 5th floor
UPDATE: While the above was my initial experience, I want share that the property management company did work with me to identify another home within the property and took additional steps to “do the right thing.” I’m hoping my experience...
Read moreNice pool, amenities, and location. Place took a hit once COVID started. Got rid of their concierge staff, competent manager (Brian), and security. All before Christmas of 2020 as well, nice work! Complex became quite filthy, cars got broken into, fire alarm sounded off at 3 am conveniently.
If your bedroom is next to the hallway, good luck. The walls and ceilings are made out of paper… Appliances are extremely cheap even though they claim a “luxurious experience”. Water seeped through my ceilings and vents. Before moving out the toilet ran for 24 hours a day. Called the maintenance hotline on many occasions, received no responses.
Worst part is they will take away your security deposit no matter what. The common theme for this is “damage to the carpet”… as if they weren’t going to replace a small area of carpet in a bedroom anyways. I am no lone victim to this, spoken to a couple former tenants they all say the same thing.
The current solutions to new tenants are to raise rent and put stickers on cars to track parking. A genius could have came up with that one. All in all, the Scott is not worth a full year of rent at this time. Airbnb for a weekend in Detroit? Sure, why not. But don’t let the recent “5 star” reviews fool you on living here. Plenty of reasonable living options in Detroit now.
Best of luck to ownership & management to straighten...
