Read moreI had a terrible experience at this place just this past Saturday night. Walked into the bar after my friends and my boyfriend and I got stopped by a very hostile man at the door. He said he needed to see our ID's and I asked him why he didn't ID my friends who just walked right by him. His response was "I don't ID everyone, get over it." I told him he probably should and he told us he probably should charge us cover for talking back. I asked him if he even worked there and he very arrogantly said this was his bar. Well, if this is your bar, why are you so rude to the people who come to spend money at your bar?! Not wanting to buy drinks and give money to this jerk, we used the bathroom and left. On the way out, I made sure this "tough guy" owner had a piece of my mind. He said he was proud of his establishment and "excellent" service. Sure, be proud of alienating your customers and making sure four more people don't go to your run-down dive-bar that looks like a bunch of furniture you dug out of dump and threw together to make it "retro." It smells like someone's moldy basement. Will not be going back and will make sure I tell everyone about how trashy this place and...
Read moreIt's kind of rough. It is also one of the most honest Detroit experiences you are going to find. Local music all year; great outdoor area in the summer. Visitors who want to know what Detroit is like for the locals should not miss this bar. The "Miami" in the name is not a reference to the city in Florida but rather a tribute to soldiers missing in action from Michigan (MIA-MI), and nearly every square inch of wall space is either plastered in Detroit and Cass Corridor art and ephemera or Vietnam-era artifacts; in one corner you will find a stuffed beaver and above the bar is a prominently displayed grenade launcher. The Old Miami specializes in a wide array of Detroit music -- one night might host a metal band and the next a showcase of instrumental hip hop with the crowd any given night equally diverse. In the summer artist perform in the large backyard which features patio seating, an outdoor stage, additional bar, koi pond, and grill area. Dive bars do not get any...
