I always make sure to give a fair review. So... I was walking in the area today, and I actually passed up a few restaurants nearby, that didn't have my interest. When I saw this place, it didn't seem like the kind of spot for someone like me, but I thought I'd give it a chance, and try something new. The greeter and the server who handled my order were friendly and helpful! The server asked if it was my first visit, which it was. So he explained the menu and the drinks. I wanted a burger, but they only had one burger on their menu, and it didn't sound like something I may like, so I decided to just have the white meat chicken. It comes with no sides; but when I saw biscuits on the menu I wanted to try them, and ordered that also. The food came surprisingly fast. Like within 5 minutes of me ordering! When I saw the chicken, I knew something wasn't right. It didn't look bad, but it certainly didn't look fresh, it looked like it had been sitting under a lamp or something. I was so reluctant, but I tasted a piece of the wing, and the skin had that gummy texture chicken gets when it's not fresh, so now I'm certain it wasn't fresh! Not happy. I then tried the biscuits...They looked like 3 dry, and flour-dusted, palm sized dough balls. They were not hot to the touch, almost room temperature, and were hard! I broke one of them apart, and tasted a piece...awful! And the centers had those oily/doughy streaks baked goods can get if not baked properly. I felt offended. After seeing my reluctance to the meal, the greeter came and asked if everything was alright. I showed her the biscuits and told her that the chicken also was not fresh and looks like it has been sitting around. She apologized and said she would return the food, and ask them to prepare my meal over, and she took it back. However I was so turned off, that I asked the second server if he would just tell her that it's ok, nevermind about the food; I'll just pay for the soda I also ordered, and tip them, and go. He tried to reassure me, but I told him thanks, but no. If a chef served that to a customer the first time; they already know it wasn't right before they sent it out, and that it was unethical--I assume they have intelligence; so in my opinion, they showed their hand, they meant to do that. I'm not trusting them to make it again! And they would have charged me full price for that garbage! I should have taken a photo but I was so stunned. The server apologized for the food, and told me I would not be charged for the soda. I thanked him again, and left. I will definitely never be back. Perhaps that's what...

We visited for the second time tonight after communicating with Travis. We decided to dine in. They definitely redeemed themselves. Everything was excellent. Service was great, atmosphere was nice and food was fresh and delicious. Today we had a whole chicken, shrimp and grits, biscuits, fries and burnt ends. No complaints at all. We are happy to have found a place that cares about the quality of food that they serve.
We were out yesterday evening craving fried chicken. We found this place on Google and decided to give it a try since it was near where we were. We ordered a whole chicken, Mac and cheese, and biscuits. The biscuits and jam were fresh and delicious. They didn’t make it home. My daughter said the Mac was good. The chicken was very disappointing but has promise. I know that carry out can be compromised by not eating it fresh so I tried a wing with my biscuit on the way home. It was already soggy. Such a bummer because I don’t eat soggy chicken. I know that it wasn’t because we waited too long to pick up because the young lady was bringing it to the front as my daughter walked in. We literally placed the from outside the restaurant and came in just before the time given that it would be ready. When we got home I popped it in the air fryer and it was pretty good. But I shouldn’t have to do that when I just received my food. The most disappointing part is that we didn’t get what we paid for. They gave us what they had. We had 3 breasts, 2 wings, and 4 legs. No thighs at all. Never seen a whole chicken with 4 legs and no thighs. If they wanted to sub something they should have asked or at least mentioned it when we picked it up. Don’t let me get all the way home to see that this is not what I ordered. Communication is key. Makes me wonder if that’s why it was soggy. Had it been sitting already and they just threw whatever in the bucket? We paid too much money not to get what we paid for without the courtesy of letting me know. If I didn’t live 20 minutes away I would have taken it back because I don’t prefer legs. Don’t think I’ll order a carryout again cause I will eat on the way home but I don’t want to finger through the bucket to see if it’s...
Read moreWe were first greeted immediately by the hostess, grace, who handled the large influx of crowd, very calmly, and in an organized fashion. Almost no one had to wait to be greated / given an estimated wait time. She tried to see this earlier than our reservation, but we ended up being seated only slightly after. She was kind enough to offer appetizers on her because of the wait, which was absolutely not necessary. We waited for a minute for a waitress to come around, so when we ask the nearest one, even though she wasn’t our waitress, she took her full meal, and turns out she was training. She had excellent recommendations, and was very insightful and apologetic! We both had the jalapeño peach margarita, which was incredible and definitely hit the spot. It had just enough kick to it. I also might suggest that if you do not like spicy food to caution yourself on this menu! Everything was absolutely bursting with flavor and spices! I’m happy to finally have found such an amazing Soulfood place in downtown Detroit! We got the four piece mix of chicken which they make in house. This is an absolute must. It comes with the spicy hot honey, which I can probably drink out of the bottle. The flavor of the chicken was phenomenal and it fell off the bone. We also got the fried chicken sandwich, which was Yet another high recommendation and definitely hit the spot. Is a must have!! We got the hush puppies, which were definitely not your plane old hush puppies. They were flavorful, not dry, and also had a kick to them with a wonderful dipping sauce. Additionally, we got mac & cheese, french fries (very yummy!! Cut like McDonald’s but actually had tons of flavor), shrimp and grits (AMAZING!!!).
HIGHLY recommend. From the food to the service, I am definitely recommending this place to many people. As far as the atmosphere along with your attire, I think that it’s the kind of place where you can dress up or go...
