This place is awesome! I want to start off by saying my wife (who is a regular) convinced me to join their 6 week "Spring Shred" challenge. I was as skeptical as they come because I've never been a fan of class workouts but I have nothing but great things to say about my experience at TRV|FIT Detroit the last 6+ weeks.
This is no Zumba or Pilates studio (though they have some lighter movement-based offerings), every offering here is designed to test your mettle. The classic TRV|X classes are a great all around mix of strength and cardio, the GRIT classes are strength focused (either upper or lower body), and the Riot clases are boxing based workouts that will leave you soaked and exhausted. There are also some specialty sessions/'clubs' for more targeted work and they offer private and semi-private personal training if that's what you're looking for. Whatever you prefer there's something for you and although you only get out what you put in, the other people in the classes and all the different coaches/trainers are super motivating and there to help you achieve your goals. The class size is capped so you're getting a focused workout without tripping over a hundred people and every session ends with targeted stretches which are a really nice way to finish off an intense workout.
Beyond the physical aspect, there is an unmatched sense of community and a ton of (no pressure) social events hosted by the gym/coaches as well as other gym-goers so you have the opportunity to get to know others.
Highly recommend trying out a session or two - you'll be hooked...
Read moreI’ve been going to this Trvfit location for over two years and loved it until a few months ago. Another gym downtown closed, and in response Trvfit increased the class limit. It was impossible to get a good workout- between there not being enough space in the gym, not enough equipment, and not enough time to rotate everyone through the workout, it just became a really frustrating experience. I voiced my concerns with the owner, who said he was aware of these issues and asked for patience while they worked them out. A month later, nothing had changed (they added more classes, but kept the cap at 18….. so nothing changed), and I was tired of getting a subpar workout and leaving frustrated.
I cancelled my membership and was informed I would still be charged for 4 more weeks- so if you have their cheapest membership that’s $140 and it just goes up from there. I understand it was in the contract, but the conditions of the membership changed. The fact that the owner is aware of the issues, doing nothing to fix the problem, and still charging cancellation fees just rubbed me the wrong way. It sucks because I’ve been coming here longer than almost any of the trainers and have loved it until now. I was hoping to come back if they figured themselves out, but after them trying to charge a cancellation fee while knowingly offering a sub-par experience, I’m good.
Genuinely have had the best experiences with the trainers though! Gaby, Chloe and Carter are amazing and I’m so grateful for their positive attitudes...
Read moreTHE BEST COACH! I have been an athlete my entire life. Years ago I felt I lived in the gym but I have to say that now, at the age of 38, I am hands down in the best shape of my life. For that I need to take a moment to thank TruFit and COACH CARTER especially. I was going to the group classes but with my crazy work schedule it was not consistent. I inquired about private training and Coach Carter was great about accommodating a crazy time that worked for me. I began working with him 7 months ago. I thought I knew how to work out but he put together an incredible plan that changed every month to keep things fresh and my body progressing. Every month we do a body scan and my muscle mass % has gone up and body fat % down. More importantly I cannot believe what i see when I look in the mirror! Coach Carter shows up every day and is there (really there) for each rep making sure you're getting the most out of it. He makes sure you have the best form yet are pushing yourself on every single rep. Ive been impressed and inspired by his dedication to his craft and how much he cares about seeing the progress in others. I have a list of qoutes I keep on my phone and one is from COACH when I heard him say one day "This is your workout. This is your time. You can never get that rep back. You can never get that time back."
Thanks COACH for all that you've done so far! Im looking forward to seeing what more is...
