I patroned this store for a while before I realized how bad the price gauging and discrimination is. I guess I thought I found an exclusive vinyl shop to share with friends but soon realized this is another sleazy business pretending to be authentic. And I’m talking about customer service and product quality as well. Certain genres are overpriced which I find predatory. The quality of packaging is also subpar. When I opened the latest vinyl I purchased (supposedly brand-new) it was bent at the edges/corners, torn, and up-charged by $10 from its original price not even three weeks ago. Someone bought the last copy in-store and I asked for another NEW copy to be shipped in but at the SAME price. It was originally $26.99, not $36.99. Gauging a loyal customer, really? And btw this isn’t even an original and they re-sealed it as if I wouldn’t notice it was used. When I opened it, everything was bent. Siren Records will quickly discriminate and cash grab certain demographics and think we won't notice. Needless to say, I was always the only one who looked like me when I visited the store but I kept going because I believed the "accessible retro" vibe was more than an aesthetic. Siren Records' is a farse. Go figure. It’s disappointing because bad business is bad business no matter how campy or well-promoted. Karma is real. Do not be fooled. If you look nothing like the individuals on their Instagram page DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. It’s unfortunate how classist and racist even the vinyl industry is but it should be of no surprise that this store falls into that category, right? Some people may read this review and run to support businesses that operate this way, but my hope is that many, many more will catch wind and take their hard-earned money elsewhere. I will no longer support this store and I hope those who are seeking to find friendly, truly progressive and non-performative businesses will take heed and not support Siren Records because they aren't selling quality. I still want the in-store experience so I will support another shop with a diverse staff and a supremacist-free environment. Remember: the buyer has the power and the seller should respect ALL their customers equally. If the seller disrespects this dichotomy, they should beware of what's coming to them.
(If certain changes magically begin to appear on their website/SM/or reviews, I'm calling it now: They're directly responding to this review and/or they're paying people to make them look good like millions of other bad...
Read moreJust had a lame record store experience somewhere else, and am motivated to review this place because, for me, when it comes to record stores that carry the new and old and price fairly: Siren is the gold standard. 1st, do the rewards program. If you buy records enough, you end up getting some great discounts ...and, if you're like me, you don't even know when it's coming. It's all in their favor...cuz when I hear, YOU GET A DISCOUNT THIS PURCHASE, I usually go back and grab that record that broke the bank. 2nd, Everybody's super friendly but also carries that typical record store personality. I always feel comfortable asking them what they have if I can't find it. 3rd, I'm not gonna talk about RSD because ...if everyone knew, it probably wouldn't be as easy to do here. 4th, follow this place on Social media. I have made trips based on posts with huge discounts on new stuff when they can do it (a year ago they bought up stuff from a distributor who, I think, was liquidating, and they totally shared some of the titles that would have big discounts on Social media). 5th, New RELEASES right near the entrance, JUST IN bin right next to that on the right. Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to cross that threshold. 6th and most important, I find awesome albums in that just in, sometimes for as low as $6...usually around 8 or 10. AND I just get great deals on new records. AND THEY'RE THERE. The KGLW and TY SEGALL selection blows me...
Read moreI started to collect records since I'm getting a record player for Christmas. Today, I went to Siren Records to explore. My dad and I had to park at a 15 minute parking spot so we were in a rush to see what Siren Records had. We went in and what's amazing is that they have a Pop section because I am more into modern music. They had artists like Lana Del Rey, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Lorde and etc. I was so surprised to see my favorite artist's records in Siren Records. It was indeed FKA twigs. I freaked out when they had FKA twigs because she is not a very well known artist in modern music. The albums they had by FKA twigs were EP1 and LP1. I decided to pick Lorde's Melodrama and FKA twigs' LP1. When my dad was waiting in line to pay, I saw Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour. I freaked out and told my dad if we could add it to our collection. He said that I can only get two and told me I would have to swap. I decided to swap FKA twigs' LP1 for Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour. I would've loved to get FKA twigs' LP1 but it's not my favorite album by her. Next time I go to Siren Records, I am hoping to see FKA twigs' Magdalene! Overall, the best nine minutes of my life in a very long time. Thank you so much and keep spinning that record! Update: My dad surprised me with LP1 at the store. As well as a bag that has my name on it. Such a friendly store! Highly...
