If youâre looking for a city thatâs a delightful blend of picturesque sunsets, craft breweries, and a hint of Scottish charm, Dunedin is your dream destination. Imagine a place where you can sip on a locally brewed beer while pretending youâre in the Highlands of Scotland (minus the haggis and bagpipes).
First off, the sunsets here are so beautiful, they should come with a warning: âMay cause sudden urges to write poetry or propose marriage.â Seriously, the sky lights up like itâs competing for a spot on a postcard.
And letâs talk about the breweries! Dunedin has more breweries per square mile than you can shake a kilt at. Each one offers a unique experience, from experimental ales that make you question your life choices to classic lagers that feel like a warm hug from an old friend. Plus, the bartenders here are so friendly, youâll forget that one time you got dumped over a pint.
In short, Dunedin is where you go to watch the sun set in a blaze of glory, drink until youâre convinced you can pronounce DĂčn Ăideann, and maybe, just maybe, fall in love with a charming town that feels like...
Read moreDunedin downtown market is a great distraction on an occasional Saturday or Sunday. The folks who attend are friendly and interactive. People take their pets. The vendors peddling their wares usually have cool stuff to check out.
Sometimes they have musical entertainment. A couple of months back I saw a female solo act perform at the market named Eliana (aka Element). She was very talented and really set the mood for a great weekend. I highly recommend you check out Eliana, if you have the opportunity. Point is, you never know what you'll discover when attending.
The crowd is tolerable. Not overwhelming. Folks aren't stepping on each other's toes or elbowing each other. So, let's keep it that way. Shall we?
Plus, you have all the great restaurants around downtown should you get hungry after listening to local talent and supporting small businesses.
On second thought, I take it all back. You'll hate it. Don't trouble yourself with going. I'll keep going on...
Read moreI'm generally a fan of these kinds of events, and this one was great!
The tents were all packed in close, so lots to look at. It did make walking a little tough at times, as it's like being a kid in a candy store looking this way and that way plus walkways just narrow enough to make problems if a big crowd formed around a couple of nearby tables, or a couple of strollers were stopped in just the wrong way, but you don't go to these events for a city pace, so it is all good natured crowds. Besides, did I mention always something to look at? :-)
Live music was a pleasant surprise, and we found a good selection of snacks and drinks to choose from. Parking was sort of like a busy mall - we had to drive around for a couple of minutes, but we found a spot pretty close, and with all the downtown shops it wasn't a problem. Downtown Dunedin is a great spot to walk around and shop, and this is a weekend highlight of this...
