Check in was ok. The front desk attendant, was not overly friendly or welcoming. She was just very matter of fact which is fine but I donât think for a front desk attendant. Nonetheless we checked in a bit early and only had to wait a few minutes for our room.
The FIRST room we were in had a VERY loud AC unit. After asking to move we were quickly accommodated. We moved to a room on the second floor and that room also had a loud AC unit but not as bad. The elevators DID NOT work the entire time we were there. There was no disclaimer other than a sign on the elevator door. Whatever. We didnât have lots of luggage but if we did I wouldnât have been thrilled.
The rooms are very Floridian/cabana like. There are NO CURTAINS. They are shutters that donât close all the way and let a TON of light in. To make matters worse, if youâre on the second floor, the ceilings are vaulted and there are windows at the peak that have no coverings at all. Light streams in from the parking lots at night. Itâs literally bright light twilight throughout the night. I did not sleep well at all for the four nights we stayed there. If you are someone who needs pitch black or very dark to sleep in this is NOT the hotel for you. The rooms are also HUGE. The first room we were in had just the beds and a desk/chair. There was really no way to watch TV comfortably. Even the headboard of the beds is hard âwoodâ. Itâs not even padded. The beds are fairly comfortable but the pillows are HORRIBLE. They are the tiny square cheez it pillows. Theyâre smooshy with zero support. I donât know why hotels insist on these type of pillows. Theyâre awful. Also, the bedding is terrible. There is a bottom sheet, a top sheet and a thicker sheet that is supposed to be a âblanketâ. If youâre someone who needs a little weight to your bedding to sleep this is not the hotel for you. Overall, even though we didnât spend much time in our room, sleeping is important and this hotel doesnât meet the mark for a solid sleeping environment for the reasons above. I donât think the rooms are very comfortable at all for these reasons.
We spent A LOT of time at the pool. When we were there the weather was PERFECT for spending the day poolside. The temperature was perfect, the pool (and the hot tub) was very clean. Pool towels are available at the front desk. The chairs are a mixed bag. A few of them are the old style slated lounge chairs while the others are more of the regular lounge chairs. There are a few tables with umbrellas. We didnât have to worry about getting chairs because surprisingly, very few people were at the pool but us. The pool was the absolute best part of our stay. It also gets sun ALL DAY so us sun worshipers can take it all in. Just wear LOTS of sunscreen and reapply OFTEN!! :).
If you stay here you MUST go to the Olde Bay Cafe which is right next to the hotel. It is amazing!! Great fish tacos, wraps and drinks! Twice during our stay we got up from the pool and walked across to have lunch. It was perfection. Breakfast at the hotel was pretty basic.
Lastly donât believe a word the app or site says about the room types. We initially reserved a marina view room and all we saw was a parking lot and the pool past it. There was NO marina view from the room we were assigned. Even when we moved rooms we were just moved directly upstairs. We still only had a higher view of the parking lot and the pool. The rooms on the other side of the office building were truly marina views. The only redeeming quality of the view is that each room had a back door that looks over the water and the sunsets were remarkable. Hotel management needs to put tons more seating on the back side of the rooms. There were three or four park benches along the entire walkway on both levels. I would much rather have sat out back than to sit in a balcony overlooking the parking lot. As far as the patio and balcony furniture is concerned itâs horribly uncomfortable.
I expected more overall and probably will try somplace...
Read moreOverall, this location is beautiful! Wonderful scenery. The hotel is right on the edge of the pier, in which you can catch the Clearwater Ferry. This place is right next to many restaurants and stores. You can even walk from this hotel and walk into downtown area. The path in front of the hotel is a walkway that leads right in front of the beach so as you walk, you can see the water. You are able to walk out into the actual pier that goes decently into the ocean. So gorgeous- especially at night! The pool is great. The rooms are clean and spacious. Housekeeping is amazing. The breakfast is decent - scrambled eggs, bacon, and tator tots. Pancake and waffle maker. Coffee and hot chocolate machine 24/7 and juice almost 24/7 depending. Sweets and fruits. Cereal. We did not inquire but we did see bikes and 4 person cart style bicycles for rent as an added option to go around town. Now to the negative- I would have rated this a 5 star but I had the âmishapâ. We arrived at this hotel at 9:30 pm ish. I made reservations online for a BALCONY QUEEN BED DELUXE room. I checked in and received my keys and ended up being led to a first floor room that definitely did not have a balcony. Very confused⌠I had to go back to the lobby to front desk. First story I received- their was a computer glitch that happened my room that I chose wasnât really âavailableâ and it was actually fully bookedâŚI was told I could get second floor balcony but not a deluxe for the rest of my stay but starting the next day. I had to sleep in the first floor room for the night. We stood at the first floor for the night and the next day, I went to front desk to explain what happened so I can get my new room keys. I asked what could have happened and she states that for some odd reason my room was suspiciously changed from my âwebsite chosenâ second floor deluxe balcony room to a 1st room room without a balcony in the system - for no reason at all. So I do not know what happened. Two sides of the story. I inquired about receiving a credit for the first night because we stood at a lower cost room. The only response I received is to talk to a supervisor the next day & I should be happy anyways because I got a really good deal online so pretty much I shouldnât ask for a credit for the first night (Per Paula)âŚ(oh - not to mention the HUGE inconvenience it was that We even had this situation in the first place. With all our luggage, had to wait for this to be resolved late at night - had to pack up all of our stuff to transfer to another new room the next day). The same day we were moving into the new room - we obviously had our âschedule plansâ for that day because we didnât expect that we needed to go back to the hotel at a certain time. We had things to do obviously. I received a call around 1 pm from front desk with an attitude (Paula) asking where was I because I need to get my stuff out of the old room so it can be cleaned. I was fortunately already heading back to the hotel - had to skip my scheduled plans by the way. Now, after this incident and after we moved to the new room - we did not go back again - third time - to inquire from supervisor of a credit for the first night. We were having such a great time⌠we didnât want to âburdenâ ourselves again and waste our precious time again to deal with it so we never âfought â for the credit. I was going to give a 3 star BUT my stay was really amazing⌠I have NO complaints other than my situation. This hotel is a hidden gem. I would...
Read moreI am uncertain of where to begin. I will just start from the beginning. I found this particular hotel on-line and like very much what I saw and read in pictures and amenities. We had a wedding to attend in Dunedin so I wanted somewhere within nice traveling distance to the wedding location and somewhere nice to stay at after the wedding. After searching for a couple of hours, we decided to stay at this Best Western. We wanted the best of the best so decided on the 2 bedroom suite they offer due to several people in our party. The price on this suite was extremely high but I figured by the look of the pictures it would be a nice stay. I booked online with my credit card and received a confirmation number for my date. So it begins... The day I was to check into my hotel, I receive a call from an elderly lady who claimed she worked for this hotel and that my card did not work and she needed another card. It seemed strange to me because I was not comfortable giving another card on top of one I already gave. I told the very rude lady that I know my card had plenty enough money in my account and there was no way it should be declining. She rudely told me she was going to give our room up and not hold our reservation. My husband who had been driving already for 8 hours advised her that he would be there in 2 hours and we would be able to sort this out. The lady was very adamant about wanting another credit card. We did not give in to her request. Upon arriving after the wedding, we went to check in and the card that the elderly lady claimed did not work, worked perfectly fine at the front desk. The customer service from the front desk was absolutely horrible. The staff was not friendly and were very bossy. After receiving our keys and going to our room, we were immediately disappointed. The 2 bedroom suite we booked was not even facing the water. We were looking out into the busy parking lot. As a matter of fact after speaking to the front desk, she assured me that not a single room is on the water! The photos are deceiving! No room faces the water at all. Its a breezeway you walk down to see the water. So the view for our nice suite was a busy and loud parking lot and streets. The windows looking out to the street were so dirty you could barely see anyway. There was no excuse for the windows and how dirty they were. There is a ledge and the windows could easily be cleaned by the staff. The ceiling fans were extremely caked up with dust and have clearly not be cleaned in quite some time. Our vent in the bathroom sounded like a drag strip runway when it was cut on. Not to mention, that the entire rooms were cement and they did not have nearly enough furniture inside to isolate the sound. You could hear both sides of the other rooms very clearly. I could tell you what they were even watching next door on TV just by the sounds coming through the walls. You could hear everything. It was awful. Be advised that the pictures that are proposed for this particular hotel are very very deceiving. There is not a single room on the water or that even has a view of the water. We spent way too much money on a suite that was a horrible experience. I hope by my review I can save someone else from this nightmare that we had. This hotel needs a lot of maintenance put into it and they need to hire...
