WINSTAR vs CHOCTAW Durant- If you're reading this you may be considering either casino so I'll talk a bit about both: WINSTAR: The hotel rooms are very nice, most have a microwave and a fridge, but are quite a bit pricier than they used to be. However once you play some you'll have no trouble getting a couple nights comped Sun-Thur on your next visit. Almost every staff person you come into contact with is very friendly and the place overall has a welcoming vibe to it. There are many reasonably priced restaurants, I recommend the Vino's Italian; but avoid the buffet, it was once good but not anymore. However some restaurants have very limited hours, and late at night pretty much nothing is open besides the sandwich place. The property is ridiculously huge and mainly set up to attract slot players, but unfortunately much of the good paytable video poker was taken out a few years ago. In fact WinStar is so big it really discourages you from going back and forth to your room since the hotel is on one end. During the week the clientele is primarily older retirees that lumber slowly around and it can be frustrating because it is easy to get stuck behind people. In recent years they have turned over much of their older staff in favor of a younger group but the staff still has a great attitude. As far as the slots being tight, I don't agree because my wife and I have hit some pretty nice jackpots over the years. WinStar continues to take great care of us so we keep coming back. Definitely the best comps of any casino we've ever been to... and we've been to a lot! CHOCTAW: We got a premium room here recently in the Sky tower and it was an absolutely beautiful room! However no coffee or microwave like WinStar. A reasonable amount of play will get your room comped. You'll quickly notice Choctaw is fancier but not near as big. The floor has a confusing layout so it's difficult to navigate and the temp is kept absolutely freezing. But I will say Choctaw Durant is a legitimate attempt at a mid level Vegas casino in the middle of nowhere, Oklahoma. Plenty of food options. Also there are activities and games for the kids like an arcade, cinema and bowling alley. The buffet attempts to be more high end, but with less options and a higher dinner price; and it's not good (just like WinStar's)... so pass on this. The crowd seems younger than WinStar's. The servers wear skimpy outfits like Vegas, but at either place you're not getting free alcohol, and the bars close before 2am. The overall vibe at Choctaw might not be as warm but it is livelier and more upscale. We've been back a few times and they have expanded the property considerably over the years. Freeplay comes as a simple 4 offers per month, so if you lose money here they will give some of it back. Of the two Choctaw would definitely be the more family friendly choice. But the drink prices are a bit higher, the slots seem tighter and the freeplay promotions are not near as good, so we'll stick to...
Read moreSpent two nights at the Choctaw Casino while on vacation in Texas. It was well worth the hour or so drive, north. Absolutely one of the best casino hotels around and it would rival many Las Vegas casino hotels. Stayed in the Sky Tower (the newest part) and it was terrific. Rooms were immaculate, beds were very comfy, bathroom was beautiful, furnishings were excellent. My room (15306) overlooked the pools from the ceiling to floor window from the 15th floor. Other family members stayed on the 6th floor (6308) and had a balcony to relax on and take in the pool views, however, other than the palm tree lined pools, there isn't much to see except the hay fields and expressway. Still, it was a decent view of the surrounding area. Definitely a country scene. The hotel and casino staff were terrific, the entire hotel and casino is always clean. Many sanitizing stations around the massive casino floor. Many free beverage stations throughout the casino. This casino is very large and has so many new games, some which I never saw...even in Vegas 5 months ago. Always could find a machine to play. If you like the slot game Buffalo, then this is the place to be. Every type of game that involves the original game of Buffalo is found here. From the newest to the older versions. Even has its own special corner, with many other Buffalo games throughout the casino. They also have a bowling alley (20 lanes), an arcade, a theatre or two, shopping and many restaurants for those who don't gamble much. From a celebrity restaurant (Guy Fieri's Kitchen and Bar) to Smashburger, Starbucks, 1832 Steakhouse, Papa John's Pizza, Bamboo Noodle and the buffet, you will find great food to choose from. If you like shrimp, then the Butterfield's Buffet is the place to go. Very large shrimp and as much as you want. Lots of great dishes at the buffet. Only a couple of drawbacks here at Choctaw. The large, outside pool with a swim up bar is close due to construction of the surrounding area, along with the outdoor eating area. Heard it will be a couple of years before it can reopen. Smaller pool area by the Sky Tower will remain open. Also, if you don't like to walk much, this hotel/casino may not be to your liking. From the elevators to our room was over a block walk. The casino floor is a massive area (think MGM Grand size) and getting around may be difficult if walking is an issue. As a side trip for my vacation, I am so glad I stayed here. So much to take in, so much to do and the good times kept going from start to finish. This place is just a great place to...
Read moreWe got a free experience at Choctaw resorts and casinos back in December because of the stars as we are season passholders and we had to bring our daughter because we did not have anybody to watch and I thought that it was going to be boring since we cannot gamble much with a two-year-old but we still had a blast. There is an arcade for the kids and a movie theater and even bowling We did all three. And my daughter has a ton of fun. I got to gamble a little bit while my husband watched her. The games were all super fun and we even won $800. We tried the Guy Fieri restaurant and I think that is the only restaurant that we really liked while we were here the food was delicious. I recommend getting the seven layer chocolate cake. we got our food for free here because we waited too long and we truly did not think we waited that long so the staff was all super kind and made sure my daughter got her food before us. We tried the buffet as well, and we honestly were not impressed because they did not have many options. It was mostly seafood. There was not enough side options. The only thing that my daughter and husband liked for the sides was the baked potato bar. We also got a Papa John’s pizza which was ridiculously expensive, but was the route to go since we did not like most of the restaurants. The hotel room was very clean and beautiful. We had a balcony however we did not go on it because we were very high up and it was very scary. I think the only thing we did not like about our rooms were the open shower concept the entire bathroom got wet when we would take a shower. so other than the food options the whole experience was a very nice experience and we will...
