First, your service is good, wait staff are decent. The atmosphere is nice and ambient. It's a nice place to hang out..if your drinking.
As for the food, I left completely unsatisfied. After seeing all these great reviews I decided to try this place for lunch.
First, your green enchiladas. Most places serve green chicken enchiladas, but I got green "cheese" enchiladas? I've never heard of such a thing in El Paso or NM. I wasn't even asked if I wanted chicken in them. Also, they had a little flavor, mainly because of the topped cheese and that was it. Not of fan, it tasted too much like TexMex.
Your Chile relleno was so bland! It had no flavor whatsoever, I mean, nothing! Enough said on that one.
The beef tacos were the only thing I could tolerate, it had decent flavor on it's own, still not enough
I had your Juarez burger as well and it was decent but could have had a little more flavor.
But the worst part for me personally is nothing had spice to it! Seriously! Are you only catering to gringos? If that's the case, then I understand, but this isn't Austin, we're in El Paso and NM, we expect some spice here. At least have that option.
The only thing that had spice to it was your salsa, which really wasn't much but it's all I had. So I had to pour my table salsa onto my enchiladas and tacos just to give it more flavor. That's just wrong, I shouldn't have had to do that for enchiladas. As for the relleno, I just couldn't eat it.
I have no filters and I say it like I see it, or in this case, taste it. You have a nice location, the atmosphere is nice in your place but you have to flavor up and spice up you food. Again, this isn't TexMex Austin!
Again, I'm a huge foodie but this is MY personal taste preference, so for all of you who read this, go try it for yourself. As for me, it's just not a place that I will be returning to anytime soon because my Mexican food should be better than I make at home, especially for the price you charge on...
Read moreMet up with my son on a Tuesday evening at about 8pm. Parking was abysmal due to a Chihuahuas game that night. Average looking restaurant when walking in, not greeted at all by a server or employee within 15 mins of arriving, although one employee was in line-of-sight, sitting in the bar area. He stayed put until a trio of friends or regulars came in about 10 mins after me and they were promptly greeted enthusiastically.
I finally walked to the bar area to order my stuff and the bartender(really pleasant guy) came to the table to take our order and ended up being our server.
The chips and "salsa" was weird; the salsa was just chopped roasted Anaheim chiles, nothing more. The chips were a mixture of half really good totopos and half undercooked chewy totopos.
Ordered the chips and queso and the chips were actually better than the ones served initially...the queso was good but had very little kick so we just threw the "salsa" into the cheese...and that was delicious.
Also ordered the chicken chicharrones, which were interesting(fried chicken skin and chicken pieces served with Buffalo sauce).
The day after, both my son and I had GI upset, which was surprising given how clean the kitchen was. Maybe something just didn't agree with us.
Overall, I was unimpressed with the service and food in relation to the price we paid. I will...
Read moreWe were visiting San Jacinto Plaza with family visiting from out of town, and we were excited to eat at Barrios after reading the reviews. Sadly, our experience was not good. Our waiter didn’t introduce himself when he first approached our table, he spoke/asked the bare minimum to get our orders. The fideos soup was sour and gross. I was really looking forward to the tortilla soup, but apparently, it was a “build your own soup.” It seemed that they shredded cooked chicken breast and added it to the “tortilla soup” broth and then plated grated cheese, tortilla chips, and diced avocado in a separate plate for you to add to the broth. So the soup didn’t taste like tortillas, the broth was water, chipotle sauce and tomato sauce. It’s clear the ingredients to the soup were not cooked altogether to achieve the taste of a well-done tortilla soup. The medium rare steak we asked for was overcooked and the salmon was also overcooked and extremely dry. We were all hungry and looking forward to eating good food, but we left disappointed. Before leaving, I did share my thoughts with the waiter and he seemed not to care about what I had to say. Needless to say I would not go back nor recommend this restaurant. For their menu prices, and the fact that 20% gratuity is added to your check, they should do better, and I...
