I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I'm not really one for writing reviews, but after the pandemic? I feel this needs to get out.
1.) The museum is more of a play center than anything, but that's a good thing. It's this giant 3 story playground with both stairs and an elevator for anyone to use. First elevator I've seen with specific seating, and the SIZE of it. If you're here for a while and you get tired going up and down the stairs? They got your back!
2.) Even after the pandemic and the mask lifting I still see plenty of workers that choose to not only wear masks, sanitize EVERYTHING, but also make an effort to social distance. That's amazing!
3.) The activities that are there are always rotating and being moved to different floors with different things to do in different places. Keep your eyes open for the STEAM workshops, they're not only educational, they're also fun. Seriously, I'm 29 and I had fun with it too.
4.) If you go on a weekend you don't have to worry about quarters for parking meters. Across the way is a parking lot that is open for anyone to park (as long as you stay away from the reserved spots). Save time, money, and headaches? Yes please!
5.) You could come here and your child could spend the whole day playing at the water table, and that'll make them mad when you leave because it's that much fun. Once again, 29, and even I enjoy playing at the table with my kid. It's got fish to catch, boats to float, paths to make, and even fountains that make contraptions move.
6.) We've been going for over 6 years and my kid STILL loves coming here. There are places for any kid. Trains, blocks, connect four, a grocery store filled with fake foods and empty boxes, a life size train with a whistle, play stores like a doctor's office, pizza parlor, a bank with fake money...they even have a stage available with costumes. And that's just the top floor!
I cannot recommend this place enough. Amazing staff, clean and well kept, and plenty to do that my kid hasn't gotten bored of the place yet. 10/5 would recommend to any...
Read moreWe had taken our children since they were toddlers to the Erie Children’s Museum, and were members for years. We loved the homey, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and our children thrived there. I’m sorry to say, we don’t have the same experience since the rebuild. The museum itself is fantastic and I have no complaints. There is so much to do, and there’s something for everyone. But the overall “vibe” has changed significantly. I no longer have the same safe, comfortable feeling I once had, and here’s my experience. The first time we went back after the reopen, a boy who appeared to be middle school age was acting aggressively with my 5-year-old daughter. He repeatedly snatched toys from her at the water table. His mother and museum staff stood close by and watched, but did nothing. I finally stepped in and remarked that he shouldn’t take toys from others, but share. His mother then threatened me that if I didn’t leave her son alone, he may hit or bite me or my child. The staff again did not intervene. My daughter was terrified and in tears, and we walked away. Later I saw the boy banging his head against a wall and removing his clothing in front of a room full of small children, and still the staff did nothing to assist. On our next visit, I experienced a male staff member repeatedly interrupting the children’s play to tell them to clean up and put away things they were actively playing with. He was walking around sanitizing things, and seemed agitated that they were then playing with and moving things he had just cleaned, as if he didn’t understand the point of the Children’s museum at all. Several staff members seemed to have little patience for children, and were hostile and unhelpful. Another young man spoke gruffly to us when we entered the wood workshop area, and explained nothing about what we could do there. I could go on. I don’t know if this is a training issue, but it’s such a shame, because it’s a great facility. I just feel like I have to be on guard now, and I really miss the safe and friendly environment we...
Read moreWere there on a Wednesday my daughter was absolutely crushed to find out that they were closed… they constantly change their hours and we’re tired of trying to remember to check on their website…. We had fun elsewhere though. Also not very friendly space for kids that are on the autism spectrum I mean, they only have one tiny little room Which looks like it was converted from a janitors closet that’s by the bathrooms… and rude workers one of the workers One day when we visited was following my daughter around and putting everything back that my daughter wanted to play with and she looked passive aggressive another day couple of them was talking about my daughter that i over heard And they always have something that doesn’t work like quite a few times we were there When they had downstairs with the Water table completely closed because they had to Redo the floor several times I don’t understand how they didn’t think of this, but all of the smart people and all of the construction And everyone who specializes in this field, they didn’t think we’re putting a water table here so we should put as suitable floor?! Something is always a few exhibits are...
