I have been coming to Prairie Joe’s on and off for over 25 years. The food is simply great. When I lived in a neighboring suburb, I would often meet friends here for breakfast and enjoy the decour, the warmth of the staff and the good, healthy, simple American fair. Just came back into town and had breakfast with two of my good friends today. I heard that someone is accusing the staff here of racism.
The people running Prairie Joes are the kindest, most down to earth people I have ever met. They are the salt of the earth, and I would be proud to have them as neighbors. They take pride in their offerings and their art is the weirdest stuff I’ve ever seen, and it puts a smile on my face with appreciation of artistic license.
Have no idea what the incident was that is being referred to, but to categorize a person as racist is aggressive and likely blown out of proportion. Would be very interesting for the accuser in this case to come back and sit down and have a conversation with these people to see if they really are the type of racist people they’ve been accused of. The owner of Prairie Joe’s is the kind of man I’d be proud to have as a neighbor. To the accuser in this situation, I’m sorry you had a negative experience. But can you hear that that one experience may not accurately categorize an entire person? Give the guy a second chance, go back in again and have a conversation with them. Would love to hear what that experience is...
Read moreI've lived in the Central St. neighborhood for four years now, but last Saturday was my first time dining at Prairie Joe's. I will definitely be back! My boyfriend and I split the lamb plate and the diner sandwich and both were excellent. The lamb plate was a healthy alternative to typical brunch foods; it included a tasty vinaigrette salad, lentils, eggs, and tender lamb pieces. I was impressed by the variety of food on the menu - there seemed to be an especially large selection of mexican and greek dishes. Portions were plentiful. I will have to try the pancakes on my next trip because just seeing them delivered to another table made my mouth water. The diner is decorated with all kinds of memorabilia, so there is plenty to explore and discuss with a friend while you are waiting for your food to be prepared. I heartily recommend...
Read morePrairie Joe's is a local diner, a small business with lots of character that is one of the few places left where you can get a cheap, basic breakfast/lunch. If you want something more elaborate, they have that too. Always check out the specials. But you can rest assured that this isn't a "brunch" type place where breakfast for two will require a second mortgage. The food is good and reasonable, what more could you want?
Also, to be clear: PJ's is not an IHOP or a McDonald's drive-thru. If you get there and the place is full, guess what? The service and your food might take a little bit longer than usual. I hope you were sitting down when you read that, should I grab the...
