Based on this afternoon's experience, despite being a customer years prior, I will absolutely not go back to America's (so-called) Best.
I called to let America's Best know that I was already running late and got stuck in highway exit traffic at 4:40 for a 4:30 appointment; the receptionist said it's fine to come in; I arrived a few minutes later, and was checked in prior to 4:50. Upon arrival the receptionists turned me away.
Now I understand it was not their fault that I was running late, but they claimed they have a policy that they cannot accept a patient more than 10 minutes late. What is troubling is why wouldn't they have stated this when I called just a couple minutes prior to ask them if it was still okay to come in?
Looking for alternative solutions, I asked if they could fill my active contact lens prescription with what they had in stock, be it the primary or generic brand. I had my prescription printed as a backup and had this in hand with me and presented to the receptionist.
They said they could only order; given this solution would not work with my timeline, as I am leaving for a trip before the contacts would arrive, I asked for a trial of what I was prescribed for (to use until I got back from my trip) given the doctor seemed to be leaving early.
After requested a trial for fitting for my active prescription (given I could not see the doctor), the receptionist said they could not provide a trial unless I had an appointment, which I was there for. The receptionists claimed the doctor was already walking out the door (which would have been well around 4:45, presumably during my scheduled appointment).
Normally I would reschedule, and they asked if they wanted to check another location, but I cannot afford to miss work two days in a row with the upcoming trip. And instead of having a solution and contacts, I have spent the same hour sharing this review.
With a national optometrist unavailable to see me after stating it was okay to come in, not being able to provide a trial set of contacts (despite presenting an active prescription), nor stocking a standard prescription in Acuvue Oasys, America's Best had no solution.
For this reason, this review merits one star - potential or past clientele need to be aware that if you get stuck in traffic, or are running more than 10 minutes late, regardless of what their staff tells you, don't even bother because you will be turned away. And if your prescription is active, you may also want to just order contacts online to avoid the hassle, particularly during a pandemic, as they won't fill it at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate: I am still receiving continued amazing service and care from Dr. Patel and her team. My eyes are rapidly changing and everybody has been very helpful from Mckenna at the desk to Nia whom cleaned and did some small but challenging repairs to a couple pairs of glasses for me to Kenneth who does all their contact lens ordering. Thank you for continuing to provide me with amazing customer service and vision care!
Dr.Rima Patel is AWESOME. She is the best eye doctor I have ever had and I have been wearing corrective lens and glasses for 20+ years. I just committed to another 3 years of thier eye care club because it is cheaper than my vision insurance that does not cover contact lens exams anyway. I love the eye care club and its legit. I paid $100 3 years ago and I did get 2 eye exams a year for 3 years. Several of the eye exams I used for eye infections and there was no extra charge and was able to write a script for inexpensive eye drops on the Giant Eagle $4 list.I have heard negative feedback about buying glasses from this company in general from any location because of their specials and deals on glasses that have a lot of fine print and rules to qualify for the deal. With that being said they also do not accept my vision insurance so I get glasses elsewhere. However I highly recommend Dr.Patel for your eye exams as she is very thorough and patient and will answer all your questions. I have had several male eye doctors in the past that were very dry and bland and took very little time with me. So if you wait a little bit longer for your eye appointment it is because she is taking her time with patients and not rushing them in and out of the room. However I have never waited more than 10 mins for an appointment. Also after several eye exams Dr. Patel will get to know your eye history and you and can help you have a better understanding of how you see and how to help you make the best decisions about your Vision options for you. No two people see alike and it's a great to have a Dr. who understands how "your" eyes operate and see! Literally the best care I have received from an eye Dr. and that is why I committed to another 3 years with the eye club. Even without the club, I would still go see this Dr. and their prices are more reasonable than private...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI canāt rate lower than 1 star so they get one for free. The glasses I got were good but the issue I have with this firm is the straight blackmail that was attempted for my co tactās prescription. They did not have my contacts in stock so they could not do a proper fitting. However the eye doctor stated that based on the 7 minute exam he completed he would be comfortable writing my contacts prescription. When they priced out the contacts I told them no thanks as I could beat them by a ton online. They said they would price match but every time they pulled it up they could get anywhere close to the price I was getting even after I gave them step by step instructions to do on their computer as I showed them on my phone. I asked them to just give me the prescription and I would order them online out of my own pocket. However thatās when everything turned sideways as they would give me my prescription unless I ordered contacts through them. This is blackmail. I talked to the eye doctor Christopher Duke of Buckeye State Optometry Assoicates and basically called him out for the blackmail. When I reiterated that I would not be purchasing my contacts through them they basically just crossed out my contacts prescription to ensure I wouldnāt get it. My insurer has been notified not to process any claims from them and regarding the expietence I had with Americaās best as itās one of the insurers providers. They are currently investigating and also advised that I fax a complaint to the state of Ohio which I have the forms printed out and ready to fax this week when back at work. The fact that a company like this would hold the prescription hostage that they wrote unless I ordered contacts through them is blackmail, especially when I showed them I could get those contacts much, much cheaper. Iām not entirely sure if they are legally allowed to not provide the prescription the the patient especially after it has been written. Their records would also show this being crossed out. Also even though the eye doctor is independent of Americaās Best the Americaās Best store personnel continued to side with the doctor as they just wanted the extreme mark up on retail contacts. Americaās Best is a shady company that I do not recommend to anyone and I will never being...
