We went last Wednesday 5/12/21, which I point out because another reviewer left a poor rating on that same day stating how chaotic the tour was. I saw it the opposite way - although there was a lot of chaos at one point, it was from another tour that abruptly came the opposite direction and slammed into us (Enchanted Tours, I believe?). They seemed to have no clue what they were doing, no guidance, no direction. I attribute the instruction at the beginning of our tour and the expertise of our guides to the fact that we ourselves were not doing the same thing. I can't imagine how difficult it is to guide a mixed group - some with zero experience on a kayak - through those mangroves at night. There were times it was completely dark, you were going against a current, etc... I kayak very frequently and still found it quite tricky at times. I think you have to have a reasonable expectation of some chaos when you are kayaking in those conditions at such a popular tourist destination. If you want something calmer, take the ferry ride to Vieques or try your luck down at La Parguera.
Sandra was an absolute angel - incredibly sweet, calm, knowledgeable, and patient. All of the guides did wonderful at what I can only imagine is a very difficult job.
I do think it would help to emphasize to the group before departing to stay in a single line.. this was mentioned, but not until we got into the water. People cutting each other off and trying to get ahead, although not the fault of the tour guides, was super frustrating and was often the source of traffic jams. If everyone stayed one behind the other and gave each other adequate space, it might help. Who knows.
Who am I to say though as a tourist from Philly who came out there and did it once? I fully trust the pros who go out there and do it every night.
We went during a new moon hoping this would mean it would glow more but sadly, the glow was pretty dim. I've been to other bio bays that had a better glow, but it is nature and unpredictable. It was still a really neat experience and worth every single penny. You can't rent a kayak for an hour up here for less than that!
Thanks guys, we had tons of fun and would 100% recommend your tour...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to snorkel in Puerto Rico and found a nice place that sailed us out to a small island off the coast. The first day when I tried to find the place using the location on their website it took me to a van with a pure adventure logo on it. When I tried to call over and over and over again to try and get some help it kept sending me to voicemail. Time went by and I used the sketchy directions they sent me over text when I was finally contacted 5 min before the boat was supposed to leave. I was almost there only to be told that they couldn't wait 3 more min for me to get there.
I cancelled over the phone when I was at the gate of the location while Jessica told me over the phone that it was my fault I went to the wrong place and that while they didn't have the right address on their mobile site ( which is what everyone is using on there vacation or once in a lifetime honeymoons) that it was on their website and that she was "looking right at it".
HERES WHERE IT GETS GOOD
I rebook the next day because I still want to go see some turtles. I ask them to send me an address so I can put it in my maps. Jessica, they same girl who told me she was looking at the right address, tells me they don't have an address! That I have to follow the sketchy directions she sent me which uses location markers like San Felipe de Queence street ( there are no street signs in Puerto Rico) and that's "just how they do it Puerto Rico"
Well I've got news for you and readers, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY HERE All the other places that do full day tours actually have address that you can find and won't waste your precious time. The boat was cramped and just as sketchy as there directions. There guides don't give a damn what you do or experience. They stop by two really pitiful locations off the island. Ones just a beach and the other is cold, has strong currents and is genuinely dull and plane. Wouldn't go there. Honestly not a...
Read moreThis is not for beginners!! although it says it is, it’s not. This was my boyfriends and my first time ever doing kayaking and it went horrible. First we booked the later time around 7:45 so it was dark not much visibility and they didn’t wait for everyone to get in their kayak to start together, so me and my boyfriend were the last ones and found ourselves not knowing where to go We felt like just going back but this crew member helped us Up to the middle which I appreciate that is why i gave it 2 stars but on the way back we were on our own and i lost count how many times i got hit with branches and with other kayakers from the other company group since the pathway is so narrow, it was painful and no no one helped us get off the wood trunks/bushes we were sort of stuck and had to figure it out. I came out with scratches on my hands and arms because of it, we felt completely embarrassed especially since we kept being pointed out that we were the last kayak when in all reality it was because they weren’t that helpful they basically left us from the beginning Except for the one guy that helped us and they decided all of a sudden to start early than the time we were told so we missed the 3 minute lesson which i heard wasn’t helpful either. We got there early too but we were told to come back at 7:45 and by the time we came back they were already getting ready to kayak.Plus in all honesty doing this was soo much work for what we actually saw, it was nothing like the pictures And i wish we could’ve done something else that day we personally didn’t find this to be much fun but just frustrating. BEGINNERS/FIRST TIME KAYAKERS please AVOID doing this as an activity this is not for you unless you like to be left behind, left with scratches at the end, left to figure it out when getting stuck or simply being embarrassed. I personally wouldn’t do kayaking again after the...
