This place reminds me of the historical sites on the east coast, which usually cost money to see, and often you have less to explore openly (though I suspect most of these exhibits can normally be seen through the windows which are hard to see without long-exposure images such as ones I uploaded and plan to add to my background image collection.) A lot is available to explore and this is the perfect place to showcase history; and I have no idea why I waited so long to check it out despite knowing about it for some time now. The General Store also reminds me of photos I came across when researching one my family would have owned from around the same time period (though just before the end of the 19th century) and it was great to photograph it, and even the buntings look like period pieces; in fact it reminded me of a video game called Bioshock Infinite which was turn of the century based, and used a lot of patriotic symbolism. Don't hesitate, it has something for everyone, and I plan to find out when events are taking place.
Update: While attending a 'Star Party,' just before dark, I snapped some photos with my cell phone (I forgot to bring my D-SLT camera.) I'll admit that I can capture images with my cell phone that I can't get with my D-SLT (DSLR variant.) I can't really say it's "better" but it does tend to make it easier (most great photos are achieved using a tripod, and due to lens design you can get much easier compositions, but it becomes less contrasty and has lower depth of field, hence a "shallower" focal plane.) โ at Farmers Branch Historical...

This place, this park and all its beautifully maintained structures and gardens, means so much to me. My Mother, Maryann Chapman, was the 1st Chairman of the Farmers Branch Historical Preservation and Restoration committee. She found the Gilbert House (she knew the caretaker) and found out it was the oldest rock house in Dallas County. She persuaded the city council to buy it and the surrounding acreage. She wanted a park where kids could visit and see, do and touch. She wanted living history days, picnics, Christmas in the park etc. All of these things happen and more!!! The Gilbert House, the Dodson House, the Victorian House, the Church, the Schoolhouse, the Depot, the General store and the Gas Station are sooooooo cool!!! Far beyond what my Mother could have imagined, you really are stepping back on time!!! Weddings here are amazing, some good friends of mine were married here and the attention to detail are 2nd to none. The staff and docents are welcoming, kind, well educated in not just these structures, but in history and Texas history. No amount of questions are too many!!! This is a do not miss, people of all ages, from 9 days to 99 years will love it. Stop, stay a while and enjoy, my Mother wanted it that way, a park to educate and be enjoyed for...
