Favorite way to use the park: go next door to Fowler’s, grab some BBQ to go, enjoy at the picnic table and watch the skateboarders enjoy themselves. Awesome skate park, pretty creek for the kids to play in and nice big open field up top for frisbee (or soccer, etc.) We hosted a barbecue at the pavilion a few months back, but it looks like a homeless person has taken up residence there so don’t count on it being available. The skate park and playground are closed for COVID so they have the parking lot closed off but I don’t think there are any restrictions on using the grounds otherwise so you can street park and go in. There’s a few great spots to put up a hammock and enjoy this urban oasis. There are also tennis courts up top and a walking path (boardwalk) access down to the NC veterans park- my criticism is the entrance to that board walk is hard to find- go to the far side of the open field at the top of the hill- and the access to it is sooo steep with loose gravel. Hard to get a stroller down and I know older folks and little kids would not be able to manage it. Maybe some stairs down the hill and a more obvious entrance...
Read moreThis has always been a pleasant neighborhood park and it is getting even better with the construction of the skate park and pickleball courts. There is no way to walk to the park from the neighborhood without walking in the street, so it is best to drive. Parking is very limited but the gates are unlocked so you can just drive onto the grass and make your own parking space. If your child is going to play on the jungle gym, be sure to first check the area for used condoms. This is a multi use location and the nighttime, adult visitors don't always clean up after themselves. Be sure to bring some drink bottles or cups and some fast food wrappers. There are several large metal containers positioned around the park and visitors like to play a game where they toss their trash towards the containers to see how close they can get...
Read moreJust a heads up to all moms driving kids and to skaters driving themselves. As of 2/9/2020 THIS SKATE PARK IS NOT YET OPEN. I CALLED FAYETTEVILLE PARKS AND REC BEFORE MAKING THE TRIP TO CONFIRM THAT THE SKATE PARK WAS OPEN. THE PERSON ON THE PHONE OBVIOUSLY GAVE ME THE WRONG INFORMATION. You will be asked to leave by the local police. I drove 3 kids there from Wilmington NC, a 2 hour drive, and they were told by the police to leave because the park was not finished. They did manage to get a few hours of great skating in though. I deducted a star in the rating for the misinformation but it is a 5 star skate park. We...
