Betty Steflik Preserve — Attraction in Flagler Beach

A lovely oasis of calm in the interface between the Intracoastal Waterway and the barrier island on which Flagler Beach resides. There's plenty of wildlife to see if you take your time to observe: Birds (herons, egrets, ibises, vultures and others), mullet, occasional manatees, crabs, etc. (I've never seen an alligator there, but others have told me they show up every now and then. Don't worry, you'll only see them from the boardwalks, so there's no danger.) There's a combination of elevated boardwalks and sandy trails winding through the preserve, and two observation/fishing decks at the Intracoastal Waterway ends of the boardwalk. Nice board walk out to the river with several places to sit and rest if you need. Not much shade on the board walk but it was a lovely evening stroll. We even saw some of the little mangrove crabs. Met several folks fishing along the way. I might go back and try a little fishing myself. The kids playground looked nice. Only issue is I couldn't see any public bathrooms other than what looked like a possible library. I didn't confirm if it was a library or another sort of public building before I left as it was getting late. Parking looked like it might get tight...

Lost 2 lures and a weight and a hook because it's rocky also I was told there is a cable running in the middle parallel to the river that is covered with some type of mesh and you really get stuck. Well I was there for hours and nothing. Had 7 family members show up as well and nothing. Towards the end of the night uncle caught a small snook and that was it. My husband caught a small ray and we returned it to the water. It's a nice place to walk around though.
