We came to this convention center on March 26th 2016 for the Fort Lauderdale Auto Show, and lets just say we were disappointed.
"2016 (March 24-27) promises to be our biggest show yet"... as stated on their website.
Error, I think they mean the smallest and most boring show ever.
What brands/manufactures went? Ford, Lexus, Acura, Scion, Honda (+ off-roading and motorcycles), GMC, Chevrolet, Maserati, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Toyota, Jeep, Lamborghini (they only had two cars), BMW (they only had two cars), Dodge, and a few others.
What brands/manufactures did not go? Well lets see, Ferrari, Nissan, Audi, BMW (they only had two cars), Porsche, Lamborghini (they only had two cars), Land Rover, Aston Martin, and many others... mostly all the European car brands didn't go to this Auto Show.
What type of new cars/trucks did they had? The show had the new Ford RS (sadly the doors were locked), Ford Super Duty, Lamborghini Aventador, Lamborghini Huracan, Cadillac ATS, Acura NSX (it was sectioned off), Chevrolet Camaro RS (hard top and convertible, convertible version was sectioned off), Corvette Stingray Z06 (hard top and convertible), Dodge Challenger Hellcat, Dodge Viper, Mercedes G Wagon, and many more.
What type of new cars/trucks did they not have? Well the brands/manufactures that went and didn't bring their new vehicles are the Ford GT, Ford Raptor, BMW M series cars, and not one concept vehicle was on the show floor.
Sadly, I was excepting to see the BMW M2 Coupe, and with a BMW dealership literally 5 minutes away I thought they were going to attend. Sadly I was wrong.
For both the admission to get in and the parking cost all together its literally the same price for a meal of 4 at Steak 'n Shake. You will need to pay for tickets and parking (I think parking should be free but its not). The parking garage has no lights at all at night (on the website it states its "well illuminated"), so be careful when you get out or walk to the car by yourself. Parking is $3 for 0 - 1 hour and $6 for 1 - 5 hours (as stated on their website).
Overall the convention center was clean and great, but was it worth it? No, I don't think so. For me as a car enthusiast, if I had to tell new comers, I would personally tell them to wait for the Miami International Auto Show and keep away from the Fort...
Read moreThe Broward County Convention Center offers a remarkably well-organized and comfortable experience, even amidst significant ongoing construction. Despite the large-scale expansion, the flow of traffic around the facility remains impressively clear, a testament to effective planning and ample signage. Parking, often a pain point at large venues, is a breeze here. The dedicated parking building is easily accessible, and a generous number of employees are on hand to guide vehicles, ensuring a smooth and stress-free arrival. Furthermore, the parking rates are quite reasonable, especially considering the prime location. Inside, the convention center truly shines. Even on a scorching 98°F day, the interior is refreshingly cool and consistently maintained, providing a welcome respite from the Florida heat. The convention spaces themselves are highly versatile, easily adapting to various event needs and functions. One of the standout features is the abundance and cleanliness of the restrooms; they are consistently well-stocked and impeccably maintained, a small detail that significantly enhances the overall visitor experience. Food options within the center are plentiful and cater to a range of tastes, offering convenience for attendees throughout their visit. While the construction is visible, particularly as they add a new hotel and expand event spaces, it doesn't detract from the current operational efficiency. In fact, the ongoing developments promise an even more impressive facility in the near future, including a new waterfront ballroom and expanded outdoor plaza. The Broward County Convention Center manages to deliver a highly functional and pleasant experience, expertly navigating its...
Read moreThe convention center in itself may look nice, but finding a place to park was HORRIBLE. The parking employees are extremely rude and do not know how to organize parking at all, instead creating worse traffic jams at all parking locations, while telling people that there was no more parking when empty parking spots could be clearly seen! The word 'CIRCUS' comes to mind in this case.
If you are going to attend a large function here, or park for a cruise check the calendar because if there are other events being held at this convention center, I would recommend you give yourself at LEAST 2 hours to get there, because I guarantee that just to get from US1 to Eisenhower will take you the better part of an hour. And that's not all! The next hour you will be held in barely-moving traffic WITHIN the parking complex! Oh, and good luck trying to navigate the haphazard parking arrangement because there are no signs anywhere, and since you will only be ignored by the parking employees if you are daring enough to ask them where to go, you will be on your own.
It is truly ironic that this convention center has no problem with collecting revenue from events being held there but will not spend enough on traffic police or better trained parking attendants in order to facilitate attending the events, when at the very least one cop should be at the Eisenhower intersection. Tthe port and the convention center sharing parking...
