I would have rated this higher, but it took close to 3 HOURS before my wife, toddler, and I could finally get on a water taxi. They kept turning around when they had to wait for the street bridge to lift up, and that's why we kept missing them. Of course, if we had known this we would have walked further down to catch the taxi. But since we were traveling with a toddler on a hot day, we were exhausted after the long wait. I later found out that only 4 taxis were running that day (apparently 3 others were out of service for repairs). When we tried to get a refund they said we coudn't because the tickets were good for a year (great for locals but unacceptable if you're from out of town like us). When I called the customer service number, one lady was empathetic and tried to help us. When I called several minutes later to ask where the water taxi was, a different lady answered and she was rude, said the taxi had passed already, that we should have already seen it, and to simply wait another hour for the next one. Very frustrating! Since we couldn't get the refund we had no choice but to wait it out.
We finally were able to get on several hours later (we arrived close to 10:30 am and boarded at 1:15 pm) and would definitely give thumbs up to the taxi drivers and those giving the tours. They were very knowledgable and funny. A quick tip is to download the Water Taxi Tracker app to get realtime info. on when a taxi will arrive (once again something we didn't know until too little too late).
Overall it was ok once you actually get on the water taxi, which is the real challenge. But if you're traveling with small children I would not recommend it, especially...
Read moreThe water taxis were great. I’m sure if you buy the tickets for multiple days you could get some better pricing. I know that various restaurants offer like a 10 percent discount so ask if eat at one of the coastal waterways restaurants. The personnel doing the tours were very knowledgeable about the houses. I would have liked to have taken more than one segment of the taxi. The taxis run until midnight so you can use the daily pass up until then. The parking around some of the areas is pricey and you should make sure you get enough time to ensure your car isn’t towed. There is a parking garage near the number 6 taxi location. From 6 access to the 10 access point and return takes about 1 hour. There is some stops that require a call to the company to get them to stop at those locations. For those that get motion sickness sitting in the middle of the boat minimizes the motion of the boat. There is a bathroom on board it looked clean and there was no odor so I’m assuming it was clean. They do have beer, water, pop and Margaritas in a can lol for sale. The crew does accept tips and deservingly so they are entertaining. The boat holds 45 people and it’s group seating meaning that your all grouped together lol. No social distancing here. Watch for the lizards under the bridges there are a lot of them and some of them are very large. The taxis could be an all day activity if you wanted. The locals probably use it differently. We really enjoyed it other than the sick daughter that was having some heat and...
Read moreEnjoyable day trip despite the wait for transfers! On first glance $28 per person seems quite expensive, but it turned out to be a good day out and was just about value for money. It’s a great way to see the waterways of Ft.L, covering much more than you could possibly see by foot/road. The ‘tour’ is narrated throughout by the boat staff which adds enormously to the tour, putting what you see into context. The only drawback is that you do waste/lose a lot of time waiting around for boat connections! We were at the ‘River Route-Pirate Republic’ stop for the advertised opening time of 10am : boat arrived 10.15; dropped us at ‘Stranahan House’ for the interchange to the ‘Ft.Lauderdale Route’. It was nearly 11 by the time we departed there. We then waited a about 20mins at the interchange stop for the ‘Express Route’ to Margaritaville Hollywood. We didn’t have a good reason to get off the boat at Hollywood, so not wanting to be stuck there a long time we didn’t! This time the stop at the interchange back to the ‘FL Route’ was about 30mins. We did get off at ‘Bokampers’ for what was by this time a very late lunch. The wait for a return boat at ‘Bokampers’ was excessive at about 40mins. We arrived back at ‘Pirate Republic’ stop just after 5pm. So in summary our 7 hour day trip was 4hrs on a boat; 2hrs waiting at stops for connecting boats; 1hr lunch break at ‘Bokampers’. It was still a worthwhile trip, but just be prepared for the hanging around losing time whilst waiting for a...
