I wish there was an option for 0 out of 5 stars, because that's what I would definitely choose after my awful experience with Half Price Books at The Centre at Preston Ridge. Actually, It wasn't EVERY worker in the store who wasted my time and was very rude; it was a despicable, white man who was working at the "Sell Your Books Here" desk. On Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at around 4:00 p.m. with my father and sister accompanying me, I had brought in two cardboard boxes with books in them. One box had books that I had read throughout my middle school career, while the other box had clean, barely untouched textbooks that I had used during middle school. I didn't really care about the first box of books as much as the second box of books, so I accepted the offer he made for the first box. However, the offer he made me for the second box of books was appalling. In total, retail wise, the second box of books was worth over $1000. However, when he asked for $26 for the second box of books, which I remind you was over all retailed for $1000, I was extremely disappointed. I am almost positive that if I had a more friendly, amiable employee working at the "Sell Your Books Here" desk, I could've gotten a much more profitable deal. After the odious worker gave me his asinine offer, I politely took my second box of books off of his desk and left. I am not writing this because I don't like Half Price Books, but specifically to the Half Price Books at The Centre at Preston Ridge, this man's service and attitude towards me was overall uncalled for...
ย ย ย Read moreWent in to sell a significant amount of many rare, out of print, and/or signed books along with some hardback and softback graphic novels. All of the hardback books have Mylar dust jacket covers of which I applied. Examples: Vintage/collectible art instruction books, all concerning the human form. Vintage/collectible magic books. As in, magician, illusionist instruction. Out of print hardback graphic novels. Not random junk but DC archive additions, things like this.
One of the books I brought in is an extremely rare copy of a stage illusion design book that only 1000 copies were print and sells for upwards of $700. My copy looks untouched.
All together Iโd say even at half retail I brought at least $2000 worth of books. Several of them sell for $100-200 just on their own.
After waiting over 2 hours for them to โevaluateโ my books they called me to the counter and offered me a total of $157
I immediately told them to put the books back on the cart and to stack them carefully otherwise I would sue them if any were damaged.
I have taken many many books to this and other locations in the past. I never feel completely happy with the offers yet itโs the price you pay for convenience. This offer was INSULTING. I should have charged them $157 just for wasting my time. NEVER will I take books...
ย ย ย Read moreMy visit to Half Price Books was for one purpose, to have several used DVD's appraised and ultimately sold to them. In that regard they exceeded my expectations - offering more than most internet appraisals offered. The process is organized well, drop the items to sell off, provide ID and then browse the store, they call you back when they're done. Unlike other buyers of DVD's, they make a cash offer, not store credit.
As far as the overall store, there were a lot of quality used Books, DVD's, Records and CD's available for sale, most at cheap prices. Based on the number of customers in the store while I was there, it seems that their merchandise turns over quite frequently, so if they don't have something they may have it in the next week.
Will I be going back? Yes, indeed. While browsing I saw several things and had some good ideas on what I might go in there for at a...
