The two stars are for the service. Service really was 5 stars, we had a super friendly waitress. My husband had the Cinco de Mayo enchiladas and they were ok. Our son had Chicken fajitas and they were ok too. Portions were really big. Our daughter wasn't really hungry and had the chicken nuggets with fries and she got just that. It's something we're not used to in Europe, a plate with absolutely no 'embellishments' at all (in Europe you'll get at least a salad leaf and some tomatoes on the side). I give this restaurant 2 stars because the Tostada ceviche pescadora was absolutely and completely inedible. It has no pepper next to it on the menu so I wasn't expecting anything overly spicy. Unfortunately it was. It was utterly disgusting. I had three bites and couldn't eat any more. It was just plain ridiculous. The waitress asked if everything was ok and when I wanted to answer she quickly took my cup and told me she'd bring me some more lemonade. When she came back to clear the table after my family was finished too I told her I hadn't eaten more than 3 bites because my food was super super hot. She told me she had indeed noticed there were too many jalapeños in the dish. Kind of her to admit that but that didn't change anything about the fact that I hadn't had any dinner. The least they could have done was take the tostada of our bill. We're here for a couple more days but we sure won't be going back to El Tapatio. Again: our waitress was a super...
Read moreIt's been a while since I spent a few days in Fruita, Colorado and stopped at El Tapatio but the outrage has long outlived the event ... I was greeted half-heartedly by the staff and seated in a section of the restaurant where no one else sat. The order taking took too long, as I waited 15 minutes for a menu, flatware, napkins and water.
Way too much food, even more insulting, it was absolutely bland, unoriginal and tasteless. The server failed to come back to check on me, refill water, you know the normal stuff that waitstaff does ...
I had to go to another part of the restaurant to find the server chillin' with co-workers to ask for the bill and a to-go box.
At server's leisure the bill was tossed on to the sad, lonely table where I sat and a to-go box that could not contain even half of the slop i was served. After a few minutes, I simply gave up trying to scoop "the salvagable" food into the box but it was an unwieldy mess and more of the food ended on the table than in the box and left the mess for the server to worry about.
I'm embarrassed for this sad performance and angry about the pricing. QUANTITY does not mean QUALITY! Never again, Fruita has plenty of other food options and I'll go hungry before...
Read moreI recently visited El Tapito and had a mostly positive experience, though there were a few drawbacks. The quantity of food was fantastic—plenty for two people. I ordered the dinner fajita for two, which came with a generous portion of both steak and chicken, perfectly seasoned and served sizzling hot. The meat was tender, and the fajitas were accompanied by sautéed vegetables, tortillas, guacamole, and salsa, making for a well-rounded and flavorful meal.
However, the service was not up to par. Our server was neither friendly nor particularly attentive, which took away from the otherwise enjoyable experience. Despite this, the quality of the food was enough to make me consider returning.
Overall, I’d recommend El Tapito for the delicious fajitas, but I hope they improve the service to match...
