So I came here today (Galveston location) to buy an air mattress and ammo. These three stars go to: Jaime the cashier who checked me out at the customer service booth for the ammo and the elder worker who walked by me and offered to take my heavy air mattress to the front of the store to allow me to continue shopping. Just so there is no confusion, After taking the ammo to my vehicle I went back into the store to buy an air mattress.
The lack of the other two stars is due to the cashier (tall white male) telling me as I check out that I couldn't bring the air mattress back if I open it. Stereotypically, he stated there are a lot of people that try to use the mattress for one night and bring it back. Took a lot out of me not to put it back and walk away. I know I needed a new mattress for our family spring break camping trip since my old air mattress is about 7 years old and has been patched up several times. I've bought 4 air mattress from Academy in the past and has never been told that. I felt like he was basically putting me in a one shoe fit all type of box. I guess I "fit the description."
Just a few things to be clear on:
1st of all, if I buy a defective air mattress it's going to be returned period! Secondly, my sister in law bought her air mattress the same day but at a different location and she said the cashier didn't say that to her. Thirdly, Academy please find another way to train your staff on what to say for returns. That was tasteless and offensive. Read moreI’m not Atmosphere but the owner, Roxanne Clarke. I haven’t been in to Academy in a while. The last time I went it was under-stocked and you couldn’t find anyone to help. Well, let me tell you!!!!! I went into the store about a week ago on a Sunday afternoon with my son to get a trampoline. I was greeted by two men asking me how they could help. I told them I was looking for a trampoline. They pointed me in the direction. Then following right behind me was two gentleman that helped me closer navigate to them. They offered much help with sizing and features of each one, down to pricing. They loaded the one I chose up on a dolly and brought it to the front. I told them I had a little more shopping to do so they gladly said they would hold on to it for me. We went to shoes and a lady in the shoe department helped us find what we needed. As we checked out the lady at the register was wonderfully pleasant. She asked if we found everything we needed. She even noticed my son and greeted him as well. I told her I was astounded to how wonderful I felt and so helpful everyone was. It was like a breath of fresh air! Thank you Ed, Steve, Mimi, Robert and David. You made my visit so wonderful. Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my shopping experience at Academy Sports+Outdoor. I was immediately greeted as soon as I walked into the store. I proceeded to the footwear department in search of running shoes. Upon arrival, Christian the sales clerk, asked if I needed any help finding anything as he was restocking the shelves. I asked if he had my size in a couple styles and he proceeded to help me look. At the moment, we couldn't find what I wanted and he then apologized for not having my size. Then, I continued looking and found two other styles I liked. I went back to him to see what the price was for the shoes as the display was sitting on the wrong shelf.
