This place’s customer service was a no go. We were on the way to Galveston for overnight fishing and came across this place. We came into the place and gave our container for 1 quart + 1 pint of shrimps, thinking everything will be good.

We put an oxygen generator/machine in the tank thinking that the baits will be good. Some of them was swimming, but not the rest. We thought the shrimps were still at the bottom. However, when we got to the Galveston fishing pier which is 10-15 minutes away from the place. The baits were all dead, and several of them was even red like boiled shrimp with no heads. We called the place and some guys picked up the phone saying that we can come back to the store, and they will see what they can do. But When we came back, they said that they called the boss and the boss said when we took the shrimps out, it was none of their problems. We asked for a refund or a change of shrimps, but the staffs couldn't do it. We just don’t get what’s the point of coming back to the place when you can’t do anything for us. Just an extra drive and a waste of time. It's weird that the staffs were on the phone with the boss, but their boss said the above, and told us to come back at 5am-12pm to talk to him. We found their boss’ phone number on here and called him. He said he will give a refund for the quart, not the whole thing, but we have to wait until 5am for him to come to the place.

I gave 2 stars cuz the owner said that he will give the refund for the quart. But It’s just frustrating to get back and forth. We can’t physically be in Galveston to wait for a refund. If the owner can authorize their staffs to give a refund or exchange the dead with live shrimps on site, it would be...

We live in Bayou Vista on a canal and fish at home most weekends. On Friday I asked my wife to pick up some live minnows and frozen squid while she was down on the island. There are several bait shops on 61st Street, and I told her to stop at any one of them. She is not experienced at purchasing bait, and had to ask a couple of questions. The guy was extremely rude to her when she asked for frozen squid, telling her she would have to buy 50 pounds of them. She saw some freshly dead squid on ice, and said "What about these?" He said yes, he could sell her some of those, "how many do you want, I can sell you ONE of them" (He then picked one of them up and held the slimy creature out toward her.) She had to make a guess and ordered 2 lbs. He then had trouble adding 3.50 + 3.50 "That's $7, isn't it?" He actually counted using his fingers. I don't expect five star service at a bait shack, but common courtesy is a must, particularly when a lady is involved. Insulting my wife is just wrong. The minnows were smaller than average, mostly too small to use for trout. I have purchased bait here in the past, but there are better places within a couple of blocks, and that's where I will go...

My husband has been buying bait here since he was a teenager but this year it was the first time I went in with him. The bait is always good for fishing. We also buy fresh fish there to grill, or fry at home. We get flounders, red fish, shrimps, tilapia, and pompano which tastes amazing. Best time to go is early, so you get first pick of all the big fresh fish. It smells but that is expected when you go to a fish/bait shop. I enjoy all the writing on the walls, and the drawing on the wall. I definitely recommend this place to everyone who needs bait to fish or buy fish to eat. They have some tackle and cast nets as well. The pictures is what my husband caught off the bait he bought...

Really good bait shop well-known amongst locals. They have an article about the history of this place and the next door Darlene's Shrimp Shack that you need to check out on the wall when you come in (close to the register). Fascinating story. Lots of bait options, both live and plastic. They also have fishing net and fishing rods. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable about fishing.
