Day 1, 31 Jul: Booked a 9am-5pm ski boat online rental at north shore. Showed at 8:45am and no one was there. They finally showed up after 9am and were surprised to see us. Filled out the paperwork and finally got the boat in the water after 10am. They agreed to let us keep the boat until 6pm but wouldn’t pro rate and just charge for the 7 remaining hours which was a pain since we had other stuff planned and scheduled at 6pm. The employee helping us launch had no idea how the boat worked and couldn’t answer any questions. He did tell us we needed to run the blower in idle but didn’t know why and didn’t check to see if it was working. I had to google it to find out the blower helps prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Probably something they should check and know about when renting to new boaters. Day 2, 1 Aug: Booked a 9am-5pm Can-Am 4 seat rental at Funtime. I arrived at 8:45am along with 5 other people. I had a reservation booked 3 weeks prior but we got to wait while the walk-ins were helped. Then we got to sit through a 20 minute presentation on waverunner safety before we were finally helped and checked out. It was quick until we got to the discussion on tires. The employee spent 5 minutes talking about how sensitive the tires were and how they could pop and shred at any minute. I definitely should have inspected the tires much closer had I known what was going to happen. I have ridden 4 wheelers and side by sides for 10 years and never had a problem with tires. We drove off the lot after 10am with no offer to extend the time. I drove for about 2 hours, around town on asphalt and dirt roads with the little kids. Never even went on a trail. Stopped at the market in town and came out to find a flat tire. Called and had a mechanic out pretty quick. They changed the tire, threw it in the back of the truck, and left after promising to show me the damage later. When I took the Side by Side back, the employee informed me that it had a sidewall puncture and that I had to purchase a new tire. I asked to see the puncture and they wouldn’t show me. Something about not being able to find it. Overall a very shady deal and I felt like they weren’t very honest. A side wall puncture in town is pretty much impossible, but a little duct tape on the inside of a side wall puncture will keep air for a few hours. All they needed to do was show me the damage and help me inspect the tires beforehand. Day 3, 2 Aug: Booked 2 x 9am-5pm waverunners online from North Beach. They were on time and it was a good day. Wish the rest of the rentals had been similar. Overall, we spent over $2000 a Bear Lake Funtime for our family vacation and we expected much better customer service and much less hassle. I included the dates because the owner likes to claim that negative reviews weren’t customers. I would definitely not rent here again. I understand that a rental place is looking out for their equipment and that people can be abusive and damage things, but most people are just looking to have fun with their families and don’t need to be lectured at checkout or treated...
Read moreWe (my family) have owned snowmobiles for literally decades, all Arctic Cats and everything from Prowlers to Wildcats and, finally, Thundercats. With multiple trips to points north (we are from Northeast Ohio), to areas in Ohio, Michigan, Ontario, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, and Quebec, we were apprehensive to venture two time zones away for a snowmobile vacation. As some of us were driving and others were flying, we were only able to bring snowmobiles for half of us. That is where Curtis and Russ come in. We were very skeptical about the whole idea of renting machines and concerned about what pitfalls or “catches" we could be in for. I am in a service type of business and understand the importance of good customer relations. The level of concern for safety and explanation of details at Bear Lake Funtime, I found exemplary. We reserved the sleds about a month in advance, all costs and options were thoroughly detailed at the time of reservation and again at the time of the rental. Costs were exactly as expected and the four snowmobiles ran flawlessly. The guys there (the aforementioned Curtis & Russ) were spectacular. The only problem was the rental car we had (with only 1,500 miles on it) stopped dead in their parking lot, and they even tried to get it to run for us! They kept it overnight and even dealt with the rental people who brought the replacement the next day- News Years Day! When we found a need for a five gallon gas can (the local hardware store wanted over $45.00 for one- empty!), Curtis said that as we were renting from them, we could borrow one from them- gratis! Space constraints limit me as to how much I can put here, but no matter what accolades I can give these fine people, it just wouldn’t be enough! This rental has been a wonderful experience and I wholeheartedly recommend Bear Lake Funtime to anyone wanting to venture into the mountains on an almost new perfectly maintained snowmobile. If you end up going there tell them that Rick from...
Read moreUPDATED* it’s convenient that every negative review “must have the wrong location”. I have the receipt with this address if you’d like to see it. Glad to hear it sounds like you’ve upgraded your equipment and employees. Best of luck!
My family and I (grandparents, adults and young kids ages 3-8) rented three ATVs for two hours on Aug. 9.
It started off with Chuck (later learned he was the mechanic) checking us in with a very intimidating and rude attitude - telling us we had to return the vehicle cleaned and filled up with gas or we'd be charged $150/hr fee to clean for the next renters. I've never had that experience when I've rented elsewhere. We asked how we were supposed to clean the vehicle after riding on trails with dirt and he recommended a car wash. He made it sound like we should only ride it on the road. He said not to climb any hills or drive on rocks and if we got lost or stuck or anything breaks, it will be his $300/hr fee.
We almost left. I've never felt so uncomfortable renting something.
The most alarming thing - the company stated that the vehicle the grandparents drove had recently been in a roll-over so they said not to worry if fluids leaked. We learned on the trail that neutral meant reverse and the steering wheel pulled continuously to the right. There was a clanging noise on the back left side throughout the ride. This vehicle had 10k miles on it.
After expressing the concern after the ride, the employee told us that he was going to have the mechanic fix it before the ride but since it was already rented, they decided to send it out as is. A bit hypocritical after grilling us about sending the vehicle back perfectly.
At the end of our ride, we filled the vehicles with gas, dusted them off and returned them 15 min early. And will not return as it was not a comfortable or...
