Dog Island is a spacious, general-use dog park with a separate, smaller area at the southeast end specifically for small or shy dogs. It’s a popular spot, and parking is usually ample—unless there’s an event at the nearby park, which can often limit parking, especially during the summer months.
Each entrance features double gates waste bags. Portable toilets are available just outside the park entrances, but there are also permanent restrooms a short walk away near the playground.
During the winter months, heavy use combined with precipitation often leaves the turf muddy and damaged. Many locals opt to take their dogs to the large, open field at Ann Morrison Park instead. This field, located southeast of the Ann Morrison Fountain, is designated for off-leash use during winter only. It's a great oopt, as long as your dog isn't an escape artist, as it helps preserve the turf at Dog Island during the vulnerable months.
The pond at Dog Island is typically drained during the winter and refilled in the spring, though I'm not sure if the exact schedule. The natural water features make this a popular spot for ducks and geese, so if you or your dog have issues with the birds—or the mess they leave behind—this might not be the best...
Read moreThis dog park is by far the biggest and the best dog park I have been to. I did give it 4 stars because I think the city should put in a couple of fountains in the water. The still water can breed mosquitoes, the dogs do drink from that water even when trying to deter them from doing so. I. Addition, a lot of dog owners do not pick up after their dogs. There are several places to grab a dog bag and lots of trash cans. The park has benches and covered areas for people to sit and enjoy watching their dogs. There are several water landings where dogs could jump into the water or wade in the shallow area. The park is amazing. I just wish citizens of Boise would be more responsible for cleaning up after their pets. I suggest this park for all size dogs. There is even a separate park that is fenced off so that smaller dogs or not so social dogs can still enjoy being off leash. I suggest you bring your pups but be sure to clean...
Read moreTook our dogs to the park today like usual. Did a cute photo shoot with them. Then let them off their leashes to play. I have two very well behaved trained dogs. We noticed them running up to some other dogs on leashes. We stayed close since we didn’t know these dogs. Our dogs ran back the second we called them except one of the dogs on the leash started a fight with our dog. One of the owners came out of no where screaming at us that our dog was awful and kept trying to hit me and my dog. I kept trying to get my dog away from him and he kept swatting at me. Finally got my dog away and we left. We used to love this park until that happened. Honestly shouldn’t be getting yelled at when my dog was trying to get away and defend himself when this other dog attacked him first. We will never be coming back to this park again if that’s how people are allowed to treat owners...
