NOT A GOOD PLACE TO HOST AN EVENT FOR GUESTS WHO HAVE BABIES. Attended the Royse City Graduation that took place at this convention center.
I brought my 4 month old son. As you can imagine when you have a child you need to bring a diaper bag with bottles filled with breastmilk, diapers and burp rags.
We wasted our time in line because of their poor planning of this event. We received a flyer that included the rules and basic info for this location. What I saw in our graduate's invitation AND on their website wasn't addressed!!!
Parking tickets according to the form on their website said that you could purchase tickets for $8. Otherwise, expect to pay in cash $10 when you arrive. There was no link on the website to pay for prepaid parking at $8. We were forced to pay $10 in cash to be able to park nearby. We could have walked, buy then we would not have been able to bring in the stroller.
Security: How difficult is it to search a diaper bag!!! Apparently, it was beyond commonsense to do this minimal task. We already didn't bring in a car seat and stroller. The facility is not sufficient for those who may be handicapped. Or have to care for small children/babies. There were no changing tables in the dirty/wet restroom that I had to use because nature did call. And i had to enjoy walking around with poo wetness on my dress. Not to mention having to carry a baby up/down STEEP steps in the foyer and in the bland auditorium.
Police with MK 15s, REALLY? What is this Iraq? It's a graduation. I guess this speaks volumes of what the city of Garland is like. How about take the parking money and the cost of the pretty parking stickers to buy metal detectors, hand railings And changing tables for the restrooms or add a family restroom.
I hope that your center doesn't experience a negligence lawsuit. After this RIDICULOUS ordeal I will not hold an event there nor refer this place for an event.
The lovely event staff asked dumb questions, "are you carrying any guns, knives, weapons?" REALLY? What criminal minded person is going to admit they are carrying those items? Hence, the reason to search the items!!!
There were construction signs to leave your bags/ purse in the car. Event staff should have been placed in the parking lot to distribute clear bags. As well as event staff to work the traffic lines near the toll bridge to streamline the lanes efficiently. There were too many event staff standing with...
Read moreThe physical building itself is very nice, however I cannot say the same for the security team. I experienced disrespect, arrogance and discrimination from security. Without any posted warning about how a parent must walk inside the building and leave their minor child outside until a security officer sees fit to let him in, two security officers essentially demanded just that. In an aggressive and arrogant tone, they yelled and intimidated as if a crime had just occurred. The mistreatment was completely unnecessary and it was not conducive to promoting safety and security. I hope nobody has to experience such discrimination and disrespect simply by attending a family event. Officers who are eager to antagonize, exert their power and control and intimidate attendees have no place at this type of venue. Perhaps, their demeanor is more appropriate for a high security prison. Conversely, this venue should not be hosting events for minority groups if they do not have security officers who have been properly trained to deal with diverse ethic and cultural backgrounds. It is not that hard to treat everyone with respect and equality and not as an inferior class. Noteworthy: The event was for oldies latin/Mexican music. In response to the other reviewer's post about the security acting like the TSA, I would describe the TSA as saints compared to security at CCC. I wonder what the CCC's screening process is or what qualifications are required of security officers who deal with the public. Organizers should consider a different venue to host similar...
Read moreI have been there for multiple graduations and events over the years. There are some exceptions, but overall the staff here is rude. 1 or 2 rude staff members is an individual problem. Across the board - it's a management problem. The entrances and exits funnel everyone in through small areas. A fire in this place would be devastating due to the poor design. Graduations don't allow families to bring flowers but they sell them inside the center for well above market value. I have been to numerous graduations for high schools and colleges all over the country and this is the ONLY place that sees floral arrangements as a security threat. Last, I will say, the sound system is embarrassing. It's inaudible. Either the person who runs the system is completely clueless or whoever designed the system for that space is clueless. But the graduation speeches and calling of the names are consistently inaudible. It's a topic of conversation at every event I've attended there. I highly encourage anyone considering holding an event at Curtis Culwell to strongly consider other options. You will be disappointed. Your attendees will be frustrated and disappointed. I have now been to this facility at least a dozen times for events I've been obligated to attend. If I see something hosted there and it's not an obligation, I'll...
