So, I was outta town (in the desert) and for the first time ever, I spilt water onto my laptop keyboard. Ugh. It was a 5 year old Macbook Pro, and it DID turn on after I'd dried it out, but the battery wasn't re-charging. So I brought to a local repair shop in the desert that had great reviews on this site - and sadly - I'm fairly certain they broke it for good. I say this because I kept getting a different story from them; they weren't returning my calls; telling me that a new cheap part would fix it; at one point the check-in gal was telling me how they were wiping it down with alcohol and rags and heat and stuff; and on and on and on. Agggh! Finally, they said they would have to replace the motherboard, and it would cost $600. So I took my machine and ran (well, walked out quickly).
Luckily, I had backed up two weeks before the spill, and I keep my most important docs on Dropbox, so I lost very little data.
When I got back to town, I saw the reviews on Art's and decided to see what he could do.
First off, he asked intelligent questions, which demonstrated to me that he understood computers and that he had real experience and knowledge. Ultimately, he came to the same conclusion that the motherboard had to be replaced, but would do it for $420. (I hadn't told him how much the previous people had asked.) That was still too much for a 5+ year old machine, so I asked if he could pull a few docs off for me. He said yes and offered me such a low price, and it felt just so nice to have an honest exchange with someone, so I asked him he wanted to keep the old computer afterwards in exchange for his services - because honestly, what am I going to do with it - I could have sold its parts on Craigslist (I'd recently put in 8 GB of new memory into it), but I didn’t want to have a computer-parts-murderer come to my home - so now, he (Art, not my Craigslist murderer) has already called and has the memory stick ready for me, but it just makes me crazy that I can’t have more of these open, honest negotiations with other human beings.
So, if you want to deal with someone super-smart, honest, and fair, Art is your guy. If not, I'm sure there are plenty of other "repair" shops...

2-13-2025 Update: Still the GOAT. Helped upgrade my computer and is fixing my new laptop.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST! My laptop crashed when I was at the east coast seeing my gf. I shopped around asking for quotes and one of the shops I talked to charged $100/hr to run a diagnostics, get the parts, and labor. So I was looking at potentially $300-$400.
When I came back to LA and found Art's place. He gave THE MOST REASONABLE and AFFORDABLE PRICE. He's definitely been my go to guy and am probably gonna go to him when I'm ready to do some upgrade on my desktop computer.
I've had to get my laptop repaired from him at least 3 times. I'm great at editing videos on the computer, but when it came to fixing it. Art was clutch AF. Here's what Art has done for me:
Fix my laptop screen and reinstall windows 10 when my hard drive crashed. Install a new SSD into my laptop.
He saved me from having to spend money to get a...
Read moreI brought my first PC build to Art as It was giving me problems that I couldn’t figure out and prior to that had taken it to someone else and kept misdiagnosing the issues. After searching through google I found Art PC and I decided to bring it in to him. I was Instantly relieved by the questions he asked and the time he took to explain things. Not only is he knowledgeable and takes the time to solve the problem, I instantly felt that he was a man of noble character, I trusted him and left my PC and sure enough he figured out the problem. My pc is running smooth and better than ever. I’m so happy and relieved as it was stopping me from continuing my projects. I highly recommend Art and If I ever have any issues again I’ll be coming back. Don’t waist your time and resources at any other repair shop. Art...
