I've lived and shopped in the Grants Pass Downtown Historic District for 2.5 years. Lovely old buildings. Shops and restaurants. However over the last year I have found it increasingly hazardous to walk and shop along 6th St in the day. Teenage boys ride their bikes up and down 6th St on the sidewalk, whizzing past pedestrians. They'll ride in groups and fly along both sides of, well me for one, causing me to freeze and stand still hoping they will pass. I have been subjected to rude and inappropriate references to private female body parts as they pass. When I protested, twice, I was followed and harassed until I reached safety. I'm a 68 year old woman. Minding my own business walking to or from home. I volunteered several nights a week at the Grants Pass Homeless Warming Center this winter. The homeless folks were polite. However teenage boys on bikes downtown are not. I no longer feel safe walking downtown in the day and I won't be visiting the businesses downtown anymore. The big box stores are safer.
