Prison Break Escape Room at Grapevine Mills
If you're into immersive escape rooms that test your teamwork and problem-solving under pressure, Prison Break at the Grapevine Mills Mall is definitely worth checking out. The experience starts the moment you walk in. The staff sets the tone with a quick intro, and once the door shuts behind you, it’s game on.
The room is split into two parts—literally. Half the team starts in one cell and the other half in another, which means communication is key from the beginning. The puzzles are clever and varied, with a mix of logic, observation, and teamwork challenges. It's not just about opening locks—some puzzles are tactile, others rely on sound or pattern recognition. No spoilers, but there’s a great “aha!” moment about halfway through that really ramps up the tension.
The set design is top-notch. The prison feels gritty and realistic, from the bars and cots to the worn-out walls and echoing pipes. You actually feel like you're in a prison. The lighting and sound effects are used well to add atmosphere without being overwhelming.
Difficulty-wise, it’s definitely on the harder end. Our group had a mix of newbies and escape room regulars, and we were sweating the clock toward the end. Thankfully, the game master was attentive and offered just enough hints without spoiling the fun. (And yes, we escaped—with 2 minutes to spare!)
Pros:
Super immersive theme and set design
Great variety of puzzles
Strong emphasis on communication and teamwork
Helpful and friendly staff
Cons:
Might be a little intense for first-timers
Not ideal for very small groups (at least 4 people recommended)
Overall Rating: 9/10
It’s one of the more challenging and cinematic escape rooms I’ve done in the DFW area. Perfect for friend groups or team-building. Just be ready to think, communicate, and maybe yell...
Read moreWow - just wow. This company knows what they are doing!!! We've played two of the four rooms at this location, and that was in the same evening because we had such a blast during the first one!
Prison Break - I really enjoyed how you start off in two cells and have to work together to get past certain clues. It really enhanced the experience and made it feel like a real prison. Once you get further into the game, the other rooms are just as enjoyable and you really feel like you're in the middle of escaping. The puzzles are difficult (but not impossible) and our game master was very helpful when we needed him.
Playground - This is by far my favorite room to date. The theme is kind of silly, but the creativity behind some of the puzzles is fantastic! I've never seen some of these ideas before, I doubt I ever will again. Plus, this is one of the only rooms I've ever been in where you are allowed to intentionally break something. Even though I accidentally "broke" the game (no spoilers!) the game master was able to resolve the issue and get us back on track in no time. And the final puzzles really friends made this room special - I'm tempted to do it again with new friends just so I can be a part of the joy the room brings them.
The only thing I might change about the rooms is that they all have a secondary entrance that you can open from the inside one access is achieved. I think this is probably to allow for more accessibility to players (which I completely agree with) but in one puzzle it ended causing us a tiny bit of grief (again, no spoilers). And I wish they sold the pins the employees wore on their lanyards - I would absolutely collect them each time I beat a game.
I will definitely be going back to do the...

I recently had the chance to visit Escape Room & The Playground, and it was an absolute blast! The escape room’s theme was a playground, which added a playful twist to the usual experience. The puzzles were cleverly integrated with childhood nostalgia, making the whole environment feel fun and lighthearted while still challenging enough to keep us on our toes.
The playground theme was so well-executed, with interactive elements that had us crawling through tunnels, sliding, and using playground equipment to solve puzzles. It was a fantastic mix of mental challenges and physical interaction, which made it feel like we were kids again while racing against the clock to escape.
A big shoutout to Nemo, our host, who was absolutely wonderful. She kept the energy high and was super helpful, providing just the right amount of hints to keep things fun without giving too much away. Her enthusiasm really added to the experience and made it even more enjoyable.
Overall, the classroom-themed escape room was a unique and unforgettable experience. I’d highly recommend it for anyone looking for something different, whether it’s with friends, family, or coworkers. You’ll leave with great memories and a huge smile...
