Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium — Attraction in Greenville

Dowdy-Ficklen stadium is a great place to watch a football game. I've traveled to over 40 Division I college football stadiums and it compares or exceeds all of them. The atmosphere created at an ECU game is pretty special, again in many cases exceeding that of other larger stadiums/schools. I sit in the chair back section and my biggest complaint is the seats do not line up front-to-back. This leads to one of my knees being constantly pressed against a seat back while the other gets the gap between two seats. If you are in the 6' tall range you will likely experience the same issue. Other than that, the seats are as comfortable as to be expected (they are hard plastic) and my family fits in them well (we are all slim/athletic build).

Underneath the stadium is not very pleasing to the eye and there always seems to be large puddles of water. Hopefully you're not spending much time under the seating areas anyway. There are a good amount of concession vendors. Bathrooms are well spaced out throughout the stadium, but they definitely use more water fountains!

There is plenty of security, both guards and actual police officers throughout the stadium and typically at least on officer per aisle. We have never felt unsafe at a game.

I attended an ECU football game here yesterday. The stadium itself is large. Someone told us it seats 50,000 and it seemed nearly sold out. There were plenty of concessions available, lots of restrooms, and 1 feature I really like is their water refill stations. There are paid parking lots available in the area. The cost is based on how close to the venue it is. Now for the important part. Let me just say that the Town of Greenville and the ECU fans were a class act. We came in rivalry BYU colors (my husband is an alumni) and we were treated with respect and even appreciation. I had multiple fans say hello, thank us for coming, help us with directions, etc. We sat amongst ECU fans and they were friendly, gracious, and fun. We shared stories and a little fun banter with the ECU fans. Our friend Dano was the highlight of our trip. ECU fans are a class act. I know there are a few exceptions, but the people of Greenville are by-and-large amazing. If you ever have the opportunity to go to Greenville, NC or ECU- definitely take it. It is southern hospitality...
